It is with great regret and apoplectic frustration that I state that I won't be making it to SwanJam. I had been eagerly anticipating great music with great people, and a journey to a beautiful part of the planet where I haven't been before. Mostly lack of money at the moment -- the future is looking good, but present cash flow barely allows me beyond the city limits.

Oh MAJOR SIGH, Tamarack. We were so hoping to have you here. That being said, I do totally understand what it is like to try to manage a freelance cash flow. It sucks and then it doesn't suck and then it sucks again. We would have been at Idiot Jam every year except for that one important factor. I will personally lift a nice glass of red something in your honour - at the camp fire. Lars doesn't know yet and he will be very sorry.

We'd be able, available, and more than happy to pick you up at home and provide transportation to and from. As you know, free lodging is available so you'd only need to worry about eating and I'm guessing you we're going to do that anyway. We'd sure be pleased to have you along.

How about that, Don? Thank you Dub. Lars was really bummed out that you are not planning to come. There is a bed - we are feeding the crew on Saturday ... you just have to take care of breakfasts and a few dinners out. ....

With the generosity of Dub and Joy this just might work. A possible sticking point is getting an enhanced drivers license (sorta like a passport) to get out of and back into the USA. I shall check this out tomorrow and send some emails.

Yeah! I mean, how often do we get the chance to hang with two guitar-playing guys who are both named Don? BTW, sekh, I'm up for anything, food-wise, s'long as it's not blazing pepper-hot. Dinner out, cooking at home, roasting a pig on a spit (as my ancestors did before instituting all that kosher business). It's all good.

So I made a reservation at Norma Jeans for the Friday night at 7. It's a great place to eat.

I seriously dislike being in airports. By making this trip, I will be showing the love, people! Really looking forward to seeing you all soon.

For most of us, airports are our favorite places to be. But we understand that you have some unexplainable aversion to them. We're all looking forward to seeing you too. I'm still planning to bring a guitar for you.

Dub, I have never found air travel all that appealing. My "aversion" to it became even more pronounced after the September 11th attacks and the increased security and frequent insensitivity and oversights of the TSA at security checkpoints, as well as some of the rules imposed. For example, I would love to have brought along four bottles of my homemade ginger beer, but you can't even bring a pint of water through security. I think it's the atmosphere in airports more than anything else. I mean, this is not about fear. It's more about loathing. And thanks so much for considering the schlepping of an extra guitar for me. I appreciate that—and I promise I won't wear any rodeo buckles.

Sorry, Howard. I was kidding. Everyone I know thinks airports are horrible places. I haven't flown since 9/11 and won't unless we decide to go to Europe someday and our yacht has been loaned out.
Airplanes are also horrible places anymore. They've gotten to be like the Greyhound Bus used to be years ago; pissed off passengers, screaming children, crates of chickens tied on top. And they've moved all the seats even closer together and discontinued all the comforts they used to provide like food.

I would go anywhere for the airplane ride. I got the old total search when I flew out of Toronto bound for New York. But they were cool enough - just asked me a hundred questions about the camera gear in my carry on. I guess I convinced them that I was carrying real camera gear that I owned. But flying ... oh to lose the "surly bonds of earth".
