Friday we stopped off at the neighborhood liquor store to get some beverages. Darie had a Schneider Weisse, Mark had a St. Peter's Creme Stout, and I had. Henry Weinhad's Root Beer. Flavored with sarsaparilla, honey, and vanilla, it poured like a stout with a small head and texture was a bit sharp with carbonation. I guzzled it as if it were the real thing. Right tasty! www.rootbeerbrothers.com/2011/12/root-beers-gift-to-all-people-henry.html

Matt, if you get the opportunity, try a Virgil's Root Beer. Katie ( my daughter specialist in small batch boutique sodas) says they are the bees knees.

I've seen Virgil's, but until last night, I have avoided root beer. Trader Joe's has it. After checking out Weinhards ingredients, I won't be drinking it agin. Too much high fructose corn syrup and phosphor acid. This looks outstanding: reedsinc.com/product/virgils-bavarian-nutmeg/

I'm going to have to try Virgil's. A good root beer is a real treat. Point of root beer snobbery - drink it like real beer, do NOT put ice in the glass. It ain't sody pop, it's root beer.

Best root beer comes from A&W as a mixed drink, the Black Cow. A root beer float with chocolate ice cream. Ahhh.... Many a hot summer day survived because of this drink.

I'm a root beer fan. But in the summer my favorites are the grapefruit-like sodas. My neighbor (at the art fair) introduced me to this wonderful li'l drink...

While you were drinking your root beer, I stopped off at Blue Marble around the corner, after taking my son out for some pretty pedestrian tapas, and bought myself a mini-marble of root-beer-flavored ice cream in a sugar cone. It was dee-lish.

Yep, that San Pellegrino stuff is some of my favorite... all the flavors.

I drink the Pellegrino at our new Greek Restaurant. It's wonderful. A new dairy here has root beer milk. I can drink it in a shot glass because it is so rich.

I love grapefruit and grapefruit flavored stuff. Unfortunately, I cannot have grapefruit because of my meds. I asked my wife, the pharmacist, if I really had to stay away from grapefruit. She said it didn't matter to her, but where was again that I want my ashes scattered? So I stay away from grapefruit. But I have heard that the San Pelegrinos are very good.

I'm a root beer fan. I also like cream soda. Is Shasta still around?

Shasta wasn't known as good, it was dirt cheap. And they had all kinds of strange flavors.

I was a big fan of Shasta Black Cherry Cola. My Mom would make cherry jello with it.

CAUTION, THREAD DRIFT: Anyone remember Shasta trailers, with their stupid little wings on the back? My family had another brand of travel trailer back then, can't recall the company, but I can recall that before every road trip, we would get a case of SHASTA BLACK CHERRY COLA! Here is what Shasta trailers looked like:

I like Henry's beer, also. (and I can get it for just a little over $5 a six when Happy Harry has it on sale)
(and his brews aren't so damn hoppy)

A&W was always my favourite. Marvellous stuff, old good memories.
Been drinking San Pellegrino for a few years. Love the grapefruit, and the blood orange. However, do NOT try the chinotto. It is vile. Very popular in Italy I gather, but it is weird, and just plain bad.
