How could we miss this vital Norwegian controversy bark up or down?I was contemplating the same problem as I was stacking wood for winter warmth over the last couple weeks and still haven't reached a conclusive decision. Any advice?

Fun article. Unusually, the comments make for interesting(ish) reading too. Some Norwegian wood tv programming to be found here. Sadly no subtitles. tv.nrk.no/serie/nasjonal-vedkveld/dvnr30003513/15-02-2013(some guitar at 01:21:48) (possibly the world's most Norwegian man at 01:50:10) (wood based jazz at 01:58:30 but the film runs out ) Stacking advice? Airflow seems to be a desirable thing.

And people view us as a simple, uncomplicated folk that only think about sex and lutefisk. Torskafulnah! Those Swedes got nothing on us! .

Ordinarily I would say stack it with bark up. Unless epaul says bark up. In which case, bark down!
You can always tell a Norwegian, but you can't tell him much.

It's an interesting controversy, and my Iowa roots say "whatever is easiest". Yup, that' s the answer.

You leave the bark on? How utterly vulgar. All wood should be trimmed of any such extraneous cover, and each piece should be carefully sliced down to exactly the same dimensions. Otherwise, your fire is all uneven. And lumpy. Can't have that.

Don't stack it, just leave it in the big pile, you will just have to unstack it to burn it. And remember green cotton wood doesn't burn with out Indian fire starter.

That reminds me -- I've got some firewood, in case anybody is needing any. If you're up here for IJam North, drop by and you're welcome to it.
And I've lived in Minnesota 19 years and have somehow avoided lutefisk.

About the sex or the lutefisk? Both go better with lots of butter. . for health reasons I advocate olive oil. My generation of the family has finally given up on the Lutefisk - not enough fisherman in the family, and the look on the face of Uncle Bub (the designated lutefisk eater of the previous generation) as he took his ritual plate of it at family reunions - there was always a dish on the buffet but when Uncle Bub passed on so did the lutefisk. Maybe if we'd used butter instead of margarine.
