Doing some figuring on retiring in January rather than waiting until 2015. So far it looks promising.

Retirement seems but a distant dream. Such is the lot of a dirty capitalist pig.

I have a 5 year old running around the house. The word retirement is not yet in the near lexicon. I'm sticking with Evan in the dirty capitalist pig camp. That said, I did reaffirm this morning that getting the 5 year old through a shower before school goes easier when one pretends to be a German speaking hair dresser. Parenting isn't really all that hard if one ditches one's ego.

Good morning. The high today is supposed to be 90, which is cool for us. Work awaits. Have a good day.

...Parenting isn't really all that hard if one ditches one's ego. Wisdom, indeed. It turns out much of life is like that.

Good Morning Good People
Thunderstorms to start the day. Retirement is a long, long, long way off (although I would be perfectly content if it started today).
A couple intense work weeks ahead, including lots of field work and a few days out of town.
Parenting (and grandparenting) demands ditching one's ego. And also one's dignity. The neighbors are getting used to seeing me sitting in the middle of the sidewalk with Mizz Lola and a bucket of sidewalk chalk.
Have a tolerable Monday one and all.

Retired and about to load guitar, etc. into the car for chorus rehearsal. Got mostly ready for camping tomorrow. Could be a wet few days on Mt. Graham. Raining here now and probably there too.
Dick, life events do put work (and retirement) in perspective.

Retirement? What is that? Does that mean you were tired once and got tired again?

Good day -- The weather bozos keep saying that today is gonna be this hot, miserable, stormy day, record-setting heat/humidity but right now it's 71 degrees and sure ain't stormin'.
I had a nice road trip yesterday to visit family in West Skonsin, saw some sumac already changing color. I got on some back roads that were new to me and added almost an hour to my drive to Eau Claire, but well worth it.
On the way, I heard the most AMAZING guitar playing on MN Public Radio -- Nicola Hall doing the Paginini Violin Concerto ....
Concerto for Violin no 2 in B minor, Op. 7 "La Campanella," a 1992 recording. I just don't see how she could do it all without overdubbing, but there it is....

Good morning... Don't know if this is the piece you heard, Billiam... I couldn't find the exact title, but this is Nicola, and this is pagga... Pagani... Panaggi... Paggin... Nick. Doesn't look all that tough:
except for maybe that little section after 0:06 that goes up to... um... uh... the end.

Hi guys. I am back from an extended vacation. Got to go home to GA and see my kids and their kids. My Mom finally met some of the grand kids that she had never seen in real life. Then we drove from Albany GA to Goldsboro NC to visit Mom's baby sister who turned 81. She is a resident of an Alzheimer's home. The only person she recognizes is my Mom. Her son, my cousin Terry, is sometimes her late spouse, sometimes a nephew, sometimes a neighbor, but never her son. Six of my cousins came and we were able to take Aunt Billie out to dinner. Two nights in a row. Then Mom and I traveled to Reidsville NC, visited Mom's only remaining brother. He is 84. Then we went back to GA for several more days. Finally got home to Miami on Saturday afternoon. At 93, I thought the trip would be too hard on her, but she really did well. This photo is my Mom and her baby sister Billie. Just for the record, posting this photo was very easy.

Lonnie -- Thanks for the post, very nice, but no, that is not what I heard at all. For one thing, she was playing with an orchestra (a Decca recording) and her hands had to be a freaking blur almost all the way through the thing. It was quite astonishing, made my wrists hurt just to think about it.

Minnesota is going to be hotter than Arizona today, and definitely more humid.
Think I'll slip a couple of racks of pork ribs in the oven to slow cook for dinner.
