I saw the news clip and came here to mention it. He is sort of of enshrined here in Iowa City for his wonderful portrayal of Bill Sackter in the film "Bill."
Rest in peace, Mr. Rooney.

I was a major fan of his growing up. He paired well with so many.....Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, etc. Starting as a child actor, he put in 9 decades in the business.

His first wife was my second cousin once removed, Ava Gardner. I remember some snickering in the family about Ava marrying a runt.

The man might have been small but he had big appetites.

I read a CNN feature in stunned silence to learn this:
Mickey Rooney testifying before a congressional committee:
"I'm asking you to stop this elderly abuse. Now. Not tomorrow, not next month, but now.
For years I suffered silently. I didn't want to tell anybody. I couldn't muster the courage and you have to have courage. I needed help and I knew I needed it. Even when I tried to speak up, I was told to shut up and be quiet."
His estate was valued at 18K. His vehicle was characterized as a jalopy. Lawyers admitted that funds disappeared unaccounted for. He lived to be 93.
I find this report to be very disturbing.

Elder abuse is a terrible circumstance. The Oregon State Bar is now requiring Oregon attorneys to report elder abuse (as attorneys and physicians her are required to report child abuse) or else be subject to sanctions.
