Speaking of the 'media war' then what of the coverage of the current conflict brought out by the Israeli ambassador? Was the statement by the UN Secy/Gen bogus? That rockets were found in a school? It's happened. They've been found in other abandoned schools. (Under international law, that still doesn't justify blowing up an occupied school.) Which, if handled like their other targets in this conflict, was warned beforehand of the "incoming". The author's arguments in showing a moral difference between the two sides continues to be made by current events.

Israel's decades long effort to wipe out Palestinians continues unabated, their occupation and land-grabbing and economic blockade and slaughter will continue as it has for years. CNN and others will continue to report their propaganda. 1. Did you view the comments made by the Israeli ambassador posted on this thread? CNN reported Israel's propaganda? 2. If Israel mounted an effort to wipe out the Palestinians it would have been fait accomplit long ago.

Did anyone else follow the link in Harris' article to the Hamas Charter? It was interesting in a scary sort of way. It called out Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, and Lions Clubs as "Zionist." I don't belong to any of those, but (Dan Brown not withstanding) have never thought them as groups full of political activists of any flavor or Zionist operatives.

They would have been OK. I joined because they had a great member's bar and Snooker room. One day I read the little book they gave us. First line was something like "This is a brotherhood of Christian white men". I turned in my antlers.

To the second, I refer you to the map of the ethnic cleansing I posted earlier.

The issue is interesting at least to the extent that only the most extreme are terribly dogmatic about it, leaving a surprisingly large number of us more undecided in the middle instead of what has, on seemingly every other issue, been galvanizing into impenetrable ideologically-specific opinions.
It's created several ironies.
It has those who wish for secular government everywhere else in the world cheering for an Islamic government in Israel.
It has those who claim to believe the most in pure democracy cheering those for whom government is the most oppressive.
It's an interesting window into what drives ideology.

I'm not sure to whom you're referring here. Personally, I'm all in favor of a secular democracy everywhere. However, that's not what is in Israel, as long as about half the population is under a military dictatorship. Hamas was democratically elected in 2006, in spite of overwhelming interference by the US and Israel in the election to prevent it. When they won anyway, Israel and the US launched a campaign of arrests and assassinations of the newly elected government. That's what precipitated the "civil war." I'd like nothing better than to see democratic elections in all of Palestine to get the majority opinion on what kind of government to have. Think that's going to happen? And who is standing in the way? If Israel simply had one-man one-vote throughout all its territory, how long could it stay a "Jewish" state, when the majority will be (if not already) non-Jewish?

when the majority will be (if not already) non-Jewish? "non-Jewish"? I remember how they feel about us as well.

Yes, and I've met Americans who've advocated the "final solution" to the Palestinian problem. So?
Right now there are Israelis who take lawn chairs and picnics out to watch with glee as Gaza is destroyed. And in Israel there were mobs chanting "Kill the Arabs." So? Everyone has extremists.

Apparently I'm the only one who caught Erin Burnett's subsequent reply to these charges of journalistic malfeasance, which was pretty convincing. CNN dug out clips of the reporter on the ground (Karl Penhaul) in fact reporting the business about rockets reportedly having been found in or near UN schools, for example. I think the Israeli official was shooting from the hip on this one. CNN is covering this war better than any other network I've seen, and they are very good at what they do.

And, on searching, I DID find CNN reported another story that I thought had been given short shrift by the US media: two unarmed Palestinian teens gunned down in a demonstration. West Bank teens shotThey're doing better than I've give them credit for.

"No such thing as international law"
Tell that to Milosevic.
And everyone we hanged at Nuremberg.

Well, that works where "might makes right" is the standard.
