Lockheed Martin says they are 10 years away from economical, small scale fusion reactors.Every reason to be skeptical/cautious of course. The quest for practical fusion systems has made a lot of engineers look like Ponce de Leon for a long time. Still, Lockheed Martin is the big time, and to come out and make this announcement is pretty bold. Its not like its some underfunded startup trying to soak a bunch of money out of Kickstarter suckers. If this proves out, everything about energy changes.

Of course Lockheed Martin is one of the biggest fraudsters and scammers in the business. They've been forced to pay tens of millions of dollars to settle fraud charges in recent years and their record of fraud goes back decades. I'm guessing they failed to get quiet money under the table to develop this technology so they're going public. This doesn't mean they will actually produce anything useable.

Well, there's two sides of the opinion coin on Lockheed Martin. It would be cool if someone came up with that. But it reminds so much of the fuel cell phenomenon. We had one of the big players here in BC, Ballard Industries. Man, I wish I had bought their stock at the right time, as totally on speculation, it went crazy. Really crazy. But they never really produced anything viable. Not even sure if they are around anymore.

Ballard is still producing fuel cells. The stock peaked at $114 in 2000. It's a tad lower, at $2.85, today. They are still around, however.

Well, that and the Avro Arrow, which of course it's widely believed was torpedoed by American Industry pressure.

Feasible fusion power production has been ten years away (from my personal knowledge) for the last 40 years, it's a moving target that is still unattainable. As they advance the tech on super-conductors closer and closer to room temperature the possibility for fusion gets more likely, but I'm not going to put any money into it until they can show me a working prototype. This article reminds me of Popular Science from the 30s I want my personal jet pack and my flying car!!!

Well it'll be a game changer iffn it ever happens. No more CO2 problems. It would finally allow humankind to overwhelm the planet's resources. Could eventually force us into space like the aliens in the "Indepenence Day" movie to plunder the resources of other planets. " Die !"

Fusion has been around since, like, forever.
