I will be performing my first recital as a faculty member of the San Francisco Conservatory on Saturday November 1st, 5pm Pacific Time. The program will be divided in two halves, featuring recent music by Japanese composers in the first—including TequilaBob's favorite, Toshio Hosokawa, and a world premiere of a Kabuki-inspired piece I commissioned from one of my former history students, Kenji Oh—and recent music for electric guitar by U.S. composers in the second. J, wonderful performance. Love the tone modification segment, too, on the classical guitar.  And that's a nice-looking Parker guitar. Time to start writing movie scores? You're looking great, young man. |

Well, I've been off line today.And just back from a lovely wedding & reception at the Chicago Art Institute. We actually got to stroll the Impressionist Wing. (So absolutely COOL). So, I'm afraid I missed a chance to hear your wonderfully accomplished work.
I hope maybe there'll be a re-broadcast.

Most excellent, J. I had some audio problems with it, and had to restart it a couple of times, then go to where I had left off. But I have had some odd problems with the browser in the iPad in the past, and it doesn't surprise me. Overall, the quality of the recording, both visually and aurally, was excellent. I admit to liking that quite a bit. In particular, I found the Japanese piece fascinating, (so, how long did it take you to be able to pull off the percussion with the right hand, the guitar slap with the left hand, and whistling all at the same time? ). And I really liked that second electric piece a lot. Some very cool movement in there. Loved the build up a the end of the first guitar piece, very nice. When I hear "minimalist" applied to music, I tend to cringe, but you gave it life and made it beautiful. Not the easiest music to listen to, but very well done. It was a pleasure to watch you play it all live. |
