Normally, I don't engage this sort of thing, but this young man lives just a few blocks from me and could use some help. This comes via a good friend of mine, and I trust him that this is not some sort of Internet gag.
If you could take a moment and send a note to Dillon, it would be much appreciated.

My friend’s son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy… a terminal illness. Dillon is 11 and after being sedentary in his wheelchair for the past four and one half years, he has developed scoliosis. After a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon, a decision has been made to insert steel rods on either side of his spine to aid in breathing capacity. Because of the type of muscle associated with muscular dystrophy, this will be a tedious procedure. The surgery, November 17th will last between eight and ten hours. Dillon will be on his stomach for the entire operation and his mom, Melissa was told that one of the risks is permanent blindness. The type of anesthesia used is also a great concern. Boys with DMD may experience a variety of life-threatening complications during and after general anesthesia, including malignant hyperthermia and disease-related cardiac complications. Please pray for Dillon, his family, the doctors, nurses and all involved to ensure a positive outcome. And please consider sending Dillon a card of encouragement and hope for a speedy recovery.
