Way back in 1996, I lead a team of 16 folks to Europe to do some MIA recovery missions. One of the team members was a PhD forensic anthropologist. I was the only person on the team without a tattoo. I still don't have one, and have no desire to get one.

I have seen a drunk octogenarian ex-navy character in the local cider house pull out his dick to show off his "just for you" tattoo. Lovely. I imagine a few rum rations were quaffed prior to that inking.

. . . , I honestly think the tiny ones placed in areas that can be easily covered (e.g. lower back or tummy) are fine on young women but anywhere else just seems tacky to me. That's known as a Tramp Stamp.

I think "tramp stamps" are cute. And on top of that I think those girls are very brave. Talking to a few tattooist tats across the spine are the most painful to get. And normal tats on big meaty parts of the body aren't comfortable. And that is a non visible tat in normal work clothes.

Oh, I get it, I am expected to see/call women with tattoos on their lower back tramps and whores. I usually disregard those sorts of memos but Okay. Do I do the insulting to their faces or just generally when the opportunity arises in conversation

Also, seriously for real regarding the rape thread (that I'm staying away from) rape has nothing to do with sex if sex were all that easy to get, why rape them? If girls are handing it out, why drug them? If these guys just wanted sex, it should be easy to get, right? Rape is about power and control. It is done by a bunch of guys who want to control women. Check out the number of porn shots on tumblr where the guy is choking the woman. Or choking her and holding their hand over their mouth. It is about power and control due to a bunch of guys who feel the need for women to submit to them. This is why it shows up in India is women are starting to gain rights and men are raping them to keep them in their place. Control. Power. Right not sex but power and control. Always has been, in the days of "rape, pillage and plunder" it was about the conquerors showing power and control over the conquered, with the secondary benefit of a bunch of off spring of the conquerors.

I don't know why.

A woman I dated for a while had a tattoo there. She was/is a senior English Literature lecturer and a mother. Work took her to New Zealand. She wasn't/isn't a tramp or a whore. It is disappointing that a casual misogynist slur can gain general, widespread acceptance and usage with such ease. Society still has some work to do.

Just not my cuppa. I have never seen one that made me think it was a beautiful modification of skin or that whatever the tattoo tried to say could not be said using a better medium.

Frankly, with some of the bigger ones, I wouldn't mention it at all. But, that's a call only you (and your physician) can make.
