Yesterday my father died. The rock I stood on, the rock I beat my head against, the rock I ran from, the rock I leaned on, the rock I stood beside has crumbled to the sea. One of his granddaughters has written a fine eulogy here

That's a fine article, Dennis. I always say to mourn the loss but celebrate the life, and it looks like he had a life to celebrate. You have our deepest sympathies.

Thank you all for the sympathy and condolences. I'm still not processing this well. He was very proud of all his grandchildren.
As his son it was hard for me to see him as his friends and grandchildren did, it took coming back to the family after being away for decades to really appreciate the man he was. He was the biggest fan of my guitar playing - I finally realized it was his way of sharing his love with me.
