Samsung warning about Smart TVs

I find this just astonishing that they do it at all, but then send the audio to a 3rd party too.... and you can't completely turn it off.

The policy explains that the TV set will be listening to people in the same room to try to spot when commands are issued. It goes on to warn: "If your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party."

But even if you opt out, your voice commands will still be captured. The SmartTV has a set of pre-programmed commands that it recognizes even if you opt out of voice recognition. Samsung will collect the text of those pre-programmed voice commands (though not your voice itself) and analyze how much you're using certain commands.

When you click "accept" on many apps on smartphones you are unknowingly (because who really reads the full disclosure...) giving the app, and thereby its creators, access to your smartphone's camera/mic. So next time you're canoodling in the bedroom you may want to toss your tightie whities over the phone on the dresser.

Same thing with the webcam on your laptop, but that one usually gets hacked by malware tagging along on porn sites. Ewwwww.

Why does any reasonable person need to talk to their TV anyway? Has it really come down to this? Talking to your appliances yet we will only text or email our friends and family.

I have a Samsung smart TV. There is a really good 'Smart Control' remote with it. The remote has a microphone that you can activate and de-activate. The voice recognition is surprisingly good and it is the most convenient and fastest way to do some things. I like techie stuff and this is useful and fun.
