I have a new set of lyrics and I'm not fond of the melody. Want to give it a shot? i see it as a blues of some sort, but whatever you come up with, I'm looking for something simple -- three or four chords. If you come up with something I like (you'd have to send me an MP3 or something so I can hear it) I'll give you co-writing credit.
Here are the lyrics:
THE DEVIL LIVES IN TAYLORVILLE © 2015 by David Hanners
The Devil lives in Taylorville, don't ask me how I know Lives in the bottoms where good men seldom go Feeds off filth and squalor and probably always will If you're looking for the Devil, he's down in Taylorville
In Taylorville the Devil does as he'll damn-well please Keeps company with gamblers, bootleggers, whores and thieves A ragman's daughter, Ruby, I sought her goodwill The Devil had his own plans down in Taylorville
Ruby sold her charms on an old houseboat Along with working girls unfit for Terre Haute Devil introduced her to cocaine's magic spell And you can't refuse the Devil down in Taylorville
Pleaded with my Ruby, "Leave it behind" But the Devil owned her flesh and coveted her mind There's a price you pay and you always will God help the soul whose debt comes due down in Taylorville
The Devil lives in Taylorville, he always gets his way Found my darling Ruby cold in her bed one day White horse took her for one last quick thrill Devil claims his own down in Taylorville

I think I've come up with a melody I like. Appreciate all the great responses. There's a lot of talent out there.
