Good luck Dick If you guys make it all the way and aren't tired or busy tonight, I'm sharing a gig in Lincoln Park area tonight. It will be FUN ! I notice that you are the only one without a last name. The same reason Basia doesn't use her last name, it would double the printing costs.

Good morning all. Sunny and unexpectedly fine this morning. In 'Murican, high 30s right now, and will warm up. Going to be spending money today - yungerdottir needs a new phone, middeldottir needs car insurance. Trying to work out the main acoustic guitar backend for a new piece I'm working on, which will be more electric based than anything I have done since I was about, oh, 19.

Interestingly, we are warmer here than Iowa and Chicago -- sunny, too. Yay. I had a rude awakening this morning; I often leave the classical station on overnight, lulls me to sleep, but this morning at like EIGHT they had some special program on and I was ripped out of my slumber by operatic sopranos bellering away, music I have never liked no matter how hard I try to appreciate it.
Of course, this on a morning when I didn't get to bed until 3 onaccounta working the late shift, grrrrrrr.
Lotsa travelers among the tribe today -- stay safe, everyone. Best wishes, Todd, don't eat all the ham and potato rolls.
Guess I will go get the grocery shopping done.
Oh, potential good news to report: After five years of switching back and forth with a colleague every two weeks between day and night shifts, said colleague has suggested that if the bosses would permit her night shift to be 1 to 10 instead of 3 to midnight, she would be willing to take on nights permanently, which of course would mean that I would get permanent days. We ran it past our immediate supervisor, who was receptive to the idea. The higher-up bosses who would have to OK it are due back from vacation next week, so we shall see. We are the only two people in the newsroom who have been forced to do this insane rotation and our sleep cycles have never really adjusted. You just get into one rhythm and then you have to switch to the next.

Now I don't have to worry about waking him up to go to lunch. Terry is on his way here and will probably go with us.

Speaking of (or typing) Marshall's last name, I discovered this morning that my aunt in FL is FB friends with a few Hjerstedts (who are FB friends with a Hersted or two). Go figure.

I'm off for a day of high school BB games. It's quarterfinals. The Freeze don't play till six. but the tournament is held in a wonderful arena with great seats and tasty brats. So, it's a fun way to spend a day. High School tournament time is sports at its near best.
(summertime softball games with a keg set up at each base is the best).

One of my uncles (who just passed away) changed his name to Hersted. I'm sure there are some Hjs in Florida. My grandfather had 9 kids. And his brother, Art, who lived next door in the city, had a bunch of kids. So there are a few out there that I don't know of. I'd need a score card.

You just get into one rhythm and then you have to switch to the next. I worked 3 1/2 years of shift work when I was younger, days, afternoons, graveyards. Screwed my sleep up for years, as it was one or two weeks per. And despite all the studies that showed that 12 hours shifts, with longer spans off, (3 on, 4 off, 2 on, 5 off, a mix,) the mix most folks who work steady shift changes do, our union would not support us changing. They told us they had worked for years to get down to an 8 hour day, and would not allow us to work longer. We tried to get out of the union at the at point, but were unable. They finally did change over, years later.
