A worldview so compelling it must be imposed by force.

But why not? At its heart, it sees no space between "mandatory" and "forbidden".

As a test Democrats should run Bernie Sanders in 2016.

Q: What's the difference between ignorance and indifference?
A: I don't know and I don't care.
We've already got the “I don't know” bloc voting, let's go for the “I don't care” bloc.

I heard the speech. President Obama did not suggest that voting be mandatory. He simply mentioned that it is in Australia. Hannity put the "suggestion" spin on it, and in 30 seconds of spin-doctoring ratcheted it up into a presidential proclamation.

I never heard it. I saw the posts all over facebook this morning from my Democrat friends cheering the concept on. I just googled up the WaPo article for reference.

Heh. Upon listening, I'd have to say "out of the frying pan...."

I heard more of it than the WaPo clip. I can see how one could construe the mandatory aspect, particularly those who oppose everything he says and does, but his point was to get more people to exercise their RIGHT to vote voluntarily.

That is the thing about quotes. They usually are not quotes at all. It's like Hitler always said, "Quotes are not quotes unless I say so and you can quote me on that!"

I know. I have decided to bring the much maligned Mr. Hitler in as often as possible today.

Okay, take the "mandatory" thing out of it. Does anyone think it would be a better country -- better government -- if everyone voted?

Okay, take the "mandatory" thing out of it. Does anyone think it would be a better country -- better government -- if everyone voted? Only if everyone was truly informed. Not just riled up, mind you, but actually informed.

Only if people voted the way I wanted them to vote. Then, it would be heavenly.

That is a good question, John. It's funny, yesterday Hannity said that if everyone voted, the Democrats would be gone for good... and John Kenneth Galbraith said the Democrats would control the White House for the next 100 years.

Don't go bringing up what he actually said, it messes up my outraged opinion.
