For the first time in my life I filled out a restaurant complaint. It was an online form, so I'll see if I get a response.
Kim and I went to Waterloo today and thought we'd stop at Popeye's Chicken for lunch. We've always liked the place. In a nutshell, after ordering we went into the dining area and even though there were only two other tables occupied, we had to wander around like morons until we found the only table left that had been clean. The rest were covered in crumbs, napkins, etc, and the entire time we were there not one employee came out to clean. The women's restroom was locked the entire time, the men's room was devoid of towels (no hand dryer), but back to the dining room. The place was pretty much empty, but down-right filthy, which might explain the former. So I let them know. I'm surprised I'm starting to waste my time doing stuff like that.

I tried Popeye's once.
The most important word in that sentence is "once".
In my book, I rate it one notch above Long John Silvers, which puts Popeye's at notch one.

That's kind of crazy, Todd. They are not going to be around for long like that. I would have complained, too.

I think it's good to complain. Otherwise how would they know anything is wrong worth bothering with, since they obviously can't figure it out for themselves. The trick is to do it while you're still mad, because other things you have to deal with quickly crowd in.
The most effective place to complain is online. They really pay attention to those. Search Popeye's in your local Yelp. I honestly think online criticism is materially improving things for customers.

I'd complain too. Popeye's red beans and rice is one of my few serious fast food vices. I love the stuff. There's a Popeye's on the way home from LJs. Last time I went to LJs was the first time I didn't stop at Popeye's on the way home.

In business, we have a saying: There are "walkers" and there are "talkers".
Talkers are worth their weight in gold. Most dissatisfied customers just walk away and never come back.

Eat at home. Cheaper, better for your health, cleaner. Todd, You know I worked 40 years in food service and you know I never eat out. People don't no how to wash there hands. I seen to much stuff go on In kitchens. Health inspections are a farce.

Sound like you have a right to complain. I, too, always feel like I have to apologize before I complain. It is not something I like to do but I will if things are worthy of it. But, you are still a grumpy old man, Todd. It is one of your best qualities.

It's a chain. Somebody quit or was off that day. The people working that day didn't give a shit. Maybe the owner doesn't give a shit. Probably in Florida for Spring Break.
It's hard to get employees that care at minimum wage. You at least have to give them supervision and set an example. They can't run on auto-pilot.

In business, we have a saying: There are "walkers" and there are "talkers". Talkers are worth their weight in gold. Most dissatisfied customers just walk away and never come back. So, businesses depend on customer feedback to know whether or not they're doing a good job? That seems weird to me. I'm probably a walker. I figure if a business doesn't have a pretty good idea what might please and displease a customer then my complaint isn't going to help them much. If a waitperson is less than attentive, I'll give them a pass and a tip. If the business seems off putting and clueless, I'm done.

You're not a grumpy old man, Todd. You're a concerned citizen/consumer. There is a fine line. Of course in 10 years or so you'll hit the demographic no one wants to market to. At that point you become a grumpy old man by default.
