Besides the new material, the thing I'll be most curious about is what his voice sounds like in a studio recording. The live stuff he's released of late show more than just a bit of lost step.

Of course, I'll buy it as soon as it is available.

I always thought that he was the least talented and best promoted sibling of that musical family. But I don't know about Hugh. Kate and Livingston are great and even Alex was super good when he was staying out of trouble. But a family troubled by many problems.
Don't get me wrong being the least talented of that family is way above the most talented of many families. But I'd spend money to go see Livingston or Kate before I'd spend money to see James.

Well, as much as I like the other sibs, I don't agree.

Well, as much as I like the other sibs, I don't agree. Did you know any thing about Hugh? I just assumed he never recorded anything. And I assumed that meant he wasn't musical and probably just sits on his ass living off the family money. I always thought he was like the youngest brother in "Beach Music".

On John's side on this one. James Taylor is one of the greats. The rest of them are decent, but not in that league.
He's getting old. Be interesting to see what he still has to say. Retirement? I think he's still touring.

How can he retire? He never had a job.

Clearly, you were dropped on your head when you were a baby. That is the only explanation for the quoted statement. Mike

The only part of that I would agree with is that I would spend money to see Livingston before I'd spend money to see James. But that's because:
1. JT concerts are large venue affairs at which I would be sitting 100 yards from the stage and watching him through opera glasses, while a Livingston concert would be small venue and I'd be no more than 30 feet from the stage and able to see as well as hear him.
2. I really do like several of Liv's songs as much as I like James'. And that's saying something because I'm a big fan of James.

How can he retire? He never had a job. Ha, ha. He's been quite active on the Summer touring schedule. He does Ravinia every year. Makes a boatload of money I would guess. Probably can afford healthcare.

I got to see Liv at the Old Town School from the front row. He puts on an amazing show and he seems to be the absolute happiest, most positive individual ever born on this earth. My face would hurt I I smiled half as much as he does. I enjoyed his show far more than I thought I would. I have never seen James in concert but I was taken by his music a long time ago when we both had a lot more hair. I think he has written some great stuff. I will get his CD when it comes out.

I saw Livingston in a double bill with Johnathan Edwards in the Orlando sports stadium (5000 seats) I was one of 9 in the audience. They both played like the place was full. And after he finished Livingston sat on the edge of the stage and talked to us for over 2 hrs. I can't think of many performers who would have played at all to a crowd of 9 in that setting. Much less sit and tell stories about bailing Alex out of jail etc. I was there to see Livingston but Edwards put on a good show too. James right place right time. The Flying Machine vs such as Jefferson Airplane It's not that I don't like James and the whole family is very talented* and all had a hard early life. Just think that at every stage of his career there were better doing what he was doing. And yes he grew through the years and the music around him grew as well. * I don't know about Hugh but I guess he's musical too. Be hard to believe that a family with genes for that much talent would produce a total dud. Think I'll start a thread on genetics and musical talent.
