Bill, So sorry for your loss. My wife's father turns 96 in August and lives on his own. We all have to be prepared for when the time comes.

Eau Claire -1976/77- I recall hanging out with you and your Dad at the airport watching the two of you in a small plane doing the touch and go maneuver, I believe? Cool experience. Cool Dad. Renee and I send condolences.

Renee and I send condolences. Sweet memory, Kevin -- at that same airport, I got to watch Dad turn green with envy before and after my Blue Angels flight. Per his wishes, we will at some point be scattering his ashes over that airport, from the air, of course. Thanks to everyone for the dear wishes -- I really did not intend to hijack the daily thread, you know. Have some fun now, won't you! Silliness is always Soundholian!

A big ol' hug from me, Bill. You are at this moment in my prayers. May we all be blessed with the kind of long and full life your dad enjoyed

Maybe I'll use Bill's sad day to announce the continuation of life. On Thursday, my daughter gave birth to another baby boy; Alexander Ferguson. The only pictures are photo studio owned, so i can't post them. I'll get to see the babe in a couple days. WONDERFUL! Congrats to you! Love me some Alexes.

I skip the daily one day, and then all of this.
Marshall, congratulations on the new grandbaby. It's got to be a wonderful feeling. Congratulations.
Life goes on in so many ways. One way is the memories that become stronger after the death of a loved one. Bill, I believe I've mentioned this before, but I remember when you visited your folks in Florida, Dad took you up for one more ride, and way down from up in the air was Mom, in her housecoat, looking up and waving with a big smile while your Dad tipped his wing. I'd suspect that at that moment you felt 10 again, a child safe with his parents, and for a brief amount of time they were again in their 40s.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thanks, Todd, I truly appreciate your kind thoughts and clear memory. The occasion of the flight you mention was Dad's 80th birthday, so of course he went flying -- he had reserved a single-engine Cessna to rent, along with an instructor (required because Dad was no longer licensed, as the annual health checkups just got too spendy and burdensome for him) but when we got there all they had available was a pretty high-performance Piper twin-engine model. I sat in the back and it was fun to watch the instructor, who had never met Dad, react once the old man took over the controls, as my dad's inputs were so smooth, so intuitive, that the plane almost seemed immune to jostling. Dad greased the landing, too. After we got home that day, the instructor called him and asked if he might be interested in riding along on some future flights he made routinely, ferrying something or the other. Dunno if that ever actually happened, but just getting the unsolicited invite was pretty remarkable.
