Have any of you plus 65 guys noticed a certain anxiety to finish routine tasks quickly even though you don't really have anything pressing to do afterwards. (Except maybe take a nap) I really didn't notice it until I got in the mid/late 60's. My wife notices it too.
Maybe our brains still think we are as swamped as we were in our 50's. I still get a certain feel of urgency to get to bed and catch some sleep if I see it's late. Probably a residual of taking so much night call when I was working.

I think it's a leftover from work but I never could sit still. I'm getting better at inactivity this year due to medical stuff but even today, painful as the shingles is/are whatever, I still thought I should go out and start picking up the fallen branches from the storm, which will of course still be there tomorrow and probably the next day. I didn't do it but probably will start tomorrow just because I can't stand inactivity. Beyond that though, I'm in charge of unloading the dish washer when it's been run and it gets done quickly although it doesn't need to.
Anyway, yup, I still do things that could wait. Hate to have anything hanging over my head. Just wish I could get back to feeling OK so I could do some of the stuff that needs doing around here. At least I got the pool closed before these shingles set in and the storm came through.

I've long been an adherent of the old saying: If you finish everything today, you won't have anything to do tomorrow.

According to you guys I'm not old yet. But I did spend this evening preparing for a meeting we're not having until Friday.

I don't think it'll ever go away. Job stress, family stress, I've been conditioned like Pavlov's dogs, I see something I have to do it. That being said, once I get a certain amount of crap done, I can relax. But I get up in the morning, empty the dishwasher, clean the kitchen, tidy the house, recycle, etc., etc. Then I sit down and have coffee.
That's on the weekends. Work days, I practice guitar for an hour. Damned kids can clean the kitchen.

I'm damned swamped every day, and seem to get farther behind every day. I look forward to this letting up eventually.

One of the reasons is it take a lot longer to do this and that when you get older. Things that used to be a 15 min job now are an all day job or if you aren't as low health wise as I am a half a day job.

I guess I was very luck in many respects. In my computing career I worked obsessively, not because I was driven to get work done but because I was often so delighted with what I was doing that I couldn't stay away. But I never lost track of my favorite line from the Bahavagad Gita: "You have control over action alone. Seek not the fruits of action, nor attach yourself to inaction." Now that my livelihood no longer depends on showing up someplace each day things are more of a challenge. My ADOLAS[*] condition has me hopping around to whatever occurred to me most recently. I have a long mental list of things that seem (or seemed) important and every so often one or more of them will pop into my head. The problem is that very few of those things ever come to an orderly or timely conclusion.
Oh, and our top deck needs staining too.

A few years back I realized I ain't worth a shit anymore. So I generally don't worry if I get things done. Chris still hasn't gotten to that point. Which is why I think I would have handled being wheelchair bound better than her. It's driving her batty (or maybe mo batty )

* Attention Defici… oh look! A squirrel. Man are we on the same page Dub. I have a million interests and things to do all the time and they pop into my mind and if not acted upon are instantly forgotten. Sometimes it is so overwhelming one can be afflicted by the frequently coexisting condition of "In a big hurry to go nowhere", "Paralyzed by indecision." The outcome of both afflictions is frequently a nap. See what you youngsters have to look forward to?

If I'm lucky I'll forget what it was and then I don't have to do it. If it's really important, my wife will remind me.
