And his defense was that his words were terribly "misinterpreted."

I don't know what DFL is? MN's Dem party is called the Democratic Farmer Labor Party.

If I think "what's best for my community" is to kill all the Jews, that's pretty evil.

If I think "what's best for my community" is to kill all the Jews, that's pretty evil. But that doesn't rule out that they think "that's what's best for my community". They should learn to think better.

They should learn to think better. Precisely. Evil can, and often does, come with the best of intentions. Good intentions don't mean a thing.

Well, all you can say is, thank god his mouth opened the turd fell out now before he got elected. Pretty certain he didn't mean it at all the way it came out, but when you're running for office, you really do need to think about three times before pressing the send button.

In general I hate that one turd can ruin the whole punch bowl, but in this case, it's a great big gross nutty rank thing. The punch bowl is ruined.

This is why some folks bring their own bottled water. Not that there are any guarantees there, either.

Kimmel has dropped out of the race. That is one less asshole running for public office. Now, if we can get another 10,000 or so to follow suit we might be ok.

Um, punchbowl, turd, drinking. . . . Perhaps a bit strained. (Though even getting the big lumps out would leave a nasty flavor.)

My guess is that it was a brain fart where Islam or Muslim became conflated with ISIS, sort of the mirror image of people who look at all Muslims as terrorists or potential terrorists. Reverse stereotyping? "Idiot" might be a good word, though.

Westboro Baptist Church is probably in their minds and per their understanding of their religion doing what's best for their community. They're not as violent but I suspect the same basic motivation. Therefore, what Kimmel said isn't racists or religionist or anyist or ism. In either case, WBC or ISIS, in their minds they're doing right. Kimmel only has to go because he said something you can't stand. If DFL is a "Democrat" party, he should have known better. Never try to introduce a complex argument to a Democrat audience. Any conservative could have told him that.

I think WBC and ISIS probably are doing what they think is best for their community, just as other nutjobs justify their actions by telling themselves everyone will be better off because of them. You're right about Kimmel knowing better. Democrats don't have the Republican's high tolerance for nonsense. You can still talk yourself out of a job in the Democratic Party.

ISIS may be evil, but we're apparently a little fuzzy on how good or bad ISIL is.
