Sounds even more tense now. It doesn't look like tomorrow's walk out to surrender will happen.
Maybe more like Butch and Sundance going out the door.

The people inside sound really frazzled. Can't imagine why. It was handled much better than other cases like this. Only one person killed. It could have been much, much worse.

I do wonder, though, how the birds feel about this. Are they allowed back into their sanctuary, or do they have to wait for government clearance?

So this standoff is over. Now the taxpayers of Harney County are stuck with the bill for the sheriff's department overtime, the taxpayers of Oregon are stuck with the bill for state police overtime, and the U.S. taxpayers are stuck with the bill for FBI operations and for cleaning up the refuge so the birds can come back.

Patrick and LJ were right in their succinct assessments. I'd add, "And none too bright". Not a good combination for gun use.

I would think that in most jurisdictions, pointing a gun at someone constitutes assault. It seems to me to be at least as threatening as "I'm gonna punch you in the nose," which is assault. (The follow-through in that case, as I understand it, would be battery.)
