I didn't need or want a new guitar, really. Then PaulS bought his Sheraton II and it got me to thinking. The positive comments many of you wrote got me to thinking for. A couple of weeks ago I took myself down to the local Guitar Center and played a Sheraton II Pro for about an hour. I was impressed. Last Saturday, in a fit of guitar envy, I found myself ordering one. It arrived on Wednesday. I've wanted a sunburst ES-335 since 1966 but it's out of reach. I have to say, this ain't a bad substitute! Very nice guitar! Now I need to get rid of my Gretsch. Anybody interested? PaulS; please don't buy any more guitars. Or, if you do, make sure I don't find out about it. Marshall; please note the sunburst.

Lar, that there's a mighty purdy git-fiddle. Congratulations. By the way, you know Paul is on commission from Epiphone, right?
What sorta Gretsch you got?

Double cutaway, with what Gretsch refers to as "vintage-voiced Gretsch "Black Top" humbucking pickups". Also an Adjusto-Matic bridge, and chrome-plated die cast tuners, and a Bigsby B60 tailpiece. According to the propoganda the pickups are based on some Baldwin era Filter Trons. They do have some jangle to them. Here's a link to the page on the Sweewater site. The guitar is red, similar to the one in the photo. It's a nice guitar but since I bought the Tele for playing in the country band I don't use it any more. link

Gorgeous, Lar! I still grab mine over the Les Paul. There is just something about the feel of the thing, and it sounds great through my amp. (Lonnie, I haven't forgotten your question about the Strat. I'm still on crutches and it's just damnably difficult to do anything, let alone take good shots of the guitar.) On Edit: I'm going to borrow a Breedlove this weekend. I think it's an Oregon model versus one of theirs from overseas.

Paul - I'm enjoying playing my new "baby". It's got a very nice solid feel to it and tons of tone. Right now I'm playing it through my little Fender Pro Junior III because it's too damned cold to go out and lug my Hot Rod Deville in from the car. No matter. The Pro Jr. sounds just like a smaller version of the Deville anyway.
Fit and finish are very impressive for a guitar built in China. Actually, it's impressive for a guitar built anywhere. I'm very pleased.
I am going to have to re-glue a portion of the "E" on the pick guard. I see one corner is already starting to lift up. Otherwise it seems perfect. And I love that sunburst!

Man, Lar, that looks gorgeous.
Paul, Breedloves are a varied lot. If it's an Oregon Breedlove, I wonder if it's one of their top end babies. They were expensive, often very quirky designs with a great reputation.

Sounds like Gibson acoustics, Rick. Two guitars, same make, same factory, same year, totally different sounds. :/

nice lookin' epi Lar. I'd be interested in the Gretsch, but unlikely that I can afford it for a year (or two)

I suggest you not do that because you probably want to use super glue and that would be a big mistake. Better to gently remove the whole thing using some naphtha. Clean it and the pickguard well, then apply new double sided tape to the E and reinstall it.

Now if I can figure out what "naphtha" is I'll be in good shape. Until now I thought it was some kind of trade agreement we made with Canada and Mexico.
