I've driven through Wisconsin twice, and stopped at grocery stores each time looking for sharp cheddar. Only Kraft-ish cheese like product to be had. Same in the health food store in Des Moines on the way to idiot jam.

Everybody knows that Wisconsin has the best cheese. Even if you didn’t know, you should be able to figure it out because Wisconsinites are known as “cheeseheads.” The above photo was taken a few years ago, shopping for cheese.

I mostly only buy extra sharp cheddar and I've never found a Wisconsin cheese that stacked up. Upstate NY, NH, VT on one side and WA and OR on the other. Canadian cheddar is better but I can't afford it. I used to get good Canadian cheddar at Pike St Market for reasonable prices, cut off the wheel while you stood there.

My daily go to cheddar is Cabot from coachdoc's part of the country as it's about $2 a pound cheaper than Tillamook. I eat about a pound of extra sharp cheddar a week and buy the 2 lb blocks for ~$9 vs the Tillamook at ~$13. With cheddar the key is how long it's aged.
