And while I was waiting for them to draw blood, (just a physical) I picked up the May 14th 2007 issue of the "New Yorker" magazine.
While paging through it, I stumbled on a interesting article about Ken Parker and luthery. It was a great read on the state of the art of luthery in 07, the insane lust for vintage instruments, and what people are willing to do to try to capture the magic. It also had opinions by T.J. Thompson, D' Aquisto, and others. While it doesn't really tell you much you don't already know, it is worth seeking out if you happen to be passing your local libriary's magazine stacks. Mike
PS Ken Parker is/was the man behind the Parker Fly electric. He is making archtops now.

I read that one, Mike. I also thought it was interesting. I have a fondness for people who challenge long-standing assumptions.

I read it, too, and while I enjoyed reading all about Parker and his creations, I could not escape the constant feeling that the writer really liked to hear his own voice at least as much as he cared about his subject.

Seems a little hypocritical for those of us that play out to knock that part of his personality.

Seems a little hypocritical for those of us that play out to knock that part of his personality. That is assuming that you like to hear your own singing voice, Doug! I have not gotten to that point yet with mine.
