The Electric Flags "A Long Time Comin'". Almost forgot about this band until I heard the following tune on the radio. Great band that only lasted about a year with the original lineup. Unfortunately the album did not chart well and members moved on to other projects but it's a great album none the less.
Groovin' is Easy is my favorite tune on the album, written and sung by Nick Gravenites. Mama Cass Elliot provided background vocals,
Personnel Mike Bloomfield – lead guitar, vocals Buddy Miles – drums, vocals Barry Goldberg – keyboards Harvey Brooks – bass Nick Gravenites – vocals, guitar Herb Rich – organ, vocals, baritone saxophone, guitar Michael Fonfara – keyboards Marcus Doubleday – trumpet Peter Strazza – tenor saxophone Stemsy Hunter – alto saxophone
Additional personnel Richie Havens – Percussion, Sitar Sivuca – Guitar, Percussion Paul Beaver – Keyboards, Moog Synthesizer Leo Daruczek – Strings Charles McCracken – Strings Bobby Notkoff – Strings Julius Held – Strings Roy Segal – Engineer Jim Marshall – Cover Photo Joe Church – Percussion, Producer John Court – Percussion, Vocals, Producer Cass Elliot - Vocal on "Groovin' Is Easy"
good stuff!

Saw a barebones Electric Flag at the Electric Factory last year of H.S. I think. They were exceptional.

That Bloomfield guy, man. He was certainly one of the most articulate spokespeople for a generation, man. I mean, man, groovy, man.
I did love the Electric Flag, though, man.

I had both albums. Bloomfield's tone one the Les Paul was golden. I can hear it now. The only time I saw him live was 42 years ago at the Albert S. Goode Auditorium at our local fairground. He played that LP all night long, squeezing music out of every fret. It seemed to me that there were not enough frets on the guitar for him to play as he used each one. The Band before him was the Sons of Champlin, another favorite of mine. The opener was Southern Pacific, a bunch of high School Seniors and a College Freshman. The guitarist, Mike Austin, joined one of my bands, and the singer, Dave Zent, became a life long friend . Austin told me Terry Haggerty, guitarist forf the Sons, smoked Hawaiian weed and played jazz guitar for hors before the show.

Saw 'em in Albuquerque back in '74 I believe. Follow your heart. Haggerty was a great guitarist.

Terry Haggerty, guitarist for the Sons, smoked Hawaiian weed and played jazz guitar for hors before the show. Now that makes for a grand audience.

What a great band. Establishing the solid link between horns and rock and roll well before Chicago or Blood Sweat & Tears took it mainstream.

Saw them in 1967 in NY. They started the show with an air raid siren. I had the album too. Loaned it to a friend and never got it back.
