Just when I thought this election year could not get any weirder comes this story from USA Today. USA Today story about security briefings for the candidatesAfter Trump's remarks about Putin hacking the Hillary's email there are some concerns about whether he ought to receive the usual security briefings that candidates get. On the other side of things there is concern about whener Hillary ought to be briefed given her sloppy handling of sensitive information when she was Secretary of State. And the White House says, "White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday that the briefings are an important part of the presidential transition process, which is a top priority for Obama. "The administration is confident that they can both provide relevant and sufficient briefings to the two major party presidential candidates while still protecting sensitive national security information," he said. He underscored that the same information will be provided to both candidates." Just imagine what it would be like if no one would give the president of the United States a security clearance. Even though I'm laughing at how ridiculous this situation is, as a citizen I have real concerns. I don't want Trump blabbing sensitive stuff to the rest of the world simply because he can't keep his big mouth shut. And Hillary scares me just as much.

Saw a great meme today. Trump is everything that is wrong with our culture, Hillary is everything that's wrong with our government.
Feel the Johnson.

Except that he KNOWS what is wrong with our culture and will fix it, whereas she IS is what is wrong with the government and she will only make it worse, right?

The president is the one American that does not require a security clearance, apparently.

I think Trump should be given the briefings. It won't be dangerous if done right. All they have to do is preface the briefings with "These are truthful facts about our country, other countries, and serious matters around the world," then turn on the TV so Trump has something to do while ignoring the briefing that follows.

Never thought of that. You might be on to something.

Today's line: why have the nut on the left or the nut on the right when you can have the Johnson? Stoner, business man, adventurer, blue state governor and this. At least politics is fun again.

FWIW, I like Johnson from the little I’ve seen of him and his running mate, VP-also-governor. But if anyone was taking them seriously, they’d undergo the same scrutiny the real candidates have seen, and the Republican propaganda machine would be aimed in their direction. As it is, they will likely escape that fate and you’ll spend the next 20 or 30 years waxing nostalgic about the best darned candidate of our lifetime who was never given a fair shot by the ignorant masses.

Clinton's problem is that she handled so much classified material that it all looked like 'normal' day-to-day stuff to her, and she's perceived as being careless with it.
Trump's problem is that he's never seen anything classified in his life, and it's likely that he'll be carelessly tweeting it.

Like the candidates or not the government can't treat the candidates differently. When they are briefed is has to be the exact same material provided in the exact same format to both candidates. This quote from Harry Reid and the statement afterwards sums up the Dems approach.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid even suggested that intelligence officials give Trump a fake briefing. "I would suggest to the intelligence agencies, if you’re forced to brief this guy, don’t tell him anything. Just fake it, because this man is dangerous,” Reid said in an interview with the Huffington Post. “Fake it. Pretend you’re doing a briefing, but you can’t give the guy any information."
the State Department is conducting a review of whether Clinton should maintain the security clearance that most former officials of her stature keep after leaving office. But revocation of her security clearance would have no impact on her intelligence briefings, because they're provided to her as a candidate at Obama's direction.

I agree with you for the same reasons I believe that if Republicans refuse to exercise their constitutional right to advise, Obama should appoint his choice to fill the months old vacancy on the Supreme Court. Today.

I'll let him know that a leftist authoritarian doesn't support him. I'm sure he'll be stunned.

Assholery invites more assholery. Tit for tat. Of course, if one side in a atmosphere of total smugness, never for a moment considers themselves capable of error because they adhere to all the acceptable opinions while hating all the acceptable groups, what's going to happen?

How about sometimes offering something besides your professionally asshole-ish comments? You go first. I knew this day would come. I agree with Cornflake's approach.
