You may remember when I was writing a song called "God's Bad Side." You had qualms about it. The qualms made me change it but not dump it.
My bandmates thought it was very funny. We started performing it. We noticed that it didn't get a very good reaction. In fact, the audience tended to react as if we'd taken a dump on the carpet.
Last weekend the song had its final performance. One bandmate and I were getting along well with the audience until we did that song. Suddenly the room felt cold. To call the applause "perfunctory" would be to overstate it.
I asked my wife if there was some problem with the song. It's very funny, she said, but....
Some things may be funny but not in the right way. Live and learn.

Well. That would be a first. Certainly worthy of a thread all by itself . . . , Off hand, I don't remember the specific song. But in general, Faith is like that. Everyone admits there's hypocracy and incosistency in the man-made practise of their religion. But, if you accept a faith, it's because you take ownership in some strong basic core belief. And, an attack on the hypocracies, (even a humerous one) can be taken as a personal afront on the whole system of beliefs. It can make the listener uneasy. Which is OK if that's what your objective is. Otherwise there's a risk of alienating the listener.
