I duck every time he opens his mouth. It's like living in the twilight zone. The wife and I just laugh. Trump could read the phone book and the left would herniate themselves looking for some kind of way to torture that into an impeachable offense. Quite laughable really.

I don't remember Trump saying that Bush and Obama and previous presidents never called the families of fallen soldiers. I think he said "Didn't always" not "Never".
Anyway's I'm also fuckin' sick of all this "Can't stand a black guy in the rose garden". It's fuckin' stupid to believe that. Most of us who didn't like the guy didn't like his socialist/communist philosophies. He's half white anyway so he wasn't a black guy in the rose garden. Cram that shit back up your ass, Russell and those who agree with him.

Folks didn't want a politician. So they got an impudent child who, at times, does astute <astupid> things. Filling in here for Bill. I think I a-spelled it all right.

Transparently lying about what his predecessors have done regarding fallen soldiers. This is not a partisan issue. Every Democrat, Republican and Martian knows that both Obama and Bush did what Trump claims they didn't do. When caught lying, his defense is to what he supposedly "heard." Where does one go to "hear" such nonsense? Why lie about this, of all things? What is the point? Is he crazy? Is he a compulsive liar? Is he, as some like to assert, just "shaking things up?" Is it because he is impulsively defensive about the fact that more than a week went by since four soldiers died in Niger and he has not contacted the families or made any public statement? (Busy golfing and Tweeting, I guess.) This is not normal behavior. www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/trump-falsely-claims-obama-didn-call-grieving-military-families-article-1.3566878President Trump on Monday falsely suggested he is one of few commanders-in-chief to call the families of fallen U.S. soldiers, and wrongly singled out his predecessor Barack Obama as a leader who never did so. “The traditional way, if you look at President Obama and other Presidents, most of them didn’t make calls,” Trump said during a White House Rose Garden press conference with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “A lot of them didn’t make calls. I like to call when it’s appropriate, when I think I’m able to do it.” Minutes later, after a reporter challenged Trump’s comments, the President said he wasn’t sure if his allegation about Obama was true. “I don’t know if he did (call),” Trump said. “I was told he didn’t often and a lot of Presidents don’t. They write letters ... I do a combination of both. Sometimes it’s a very difficult thing to do, but I do a combination of both. President Obama, I think, probably did sometimes and maybe sometimes he didn’t. I don’t know. That’s what I was told.” I don't know. May we assume that you, on the other hand, can always be relied upon to tell the truth?

I've always thought the Bergdahl thing was a message to all soldiers that we'll do whatever it takes to bring them home from captivity.
Bergdahl's innocence or guilt will be determined by a military court, as it should. He's not a hero. He's an American son. And as such, we will not let him rot in a foreign cell.

Easy there, Bruce. The easiest way to know your winning an argument is when they call you a racist.

You brought up the left going nuts if he read the phone book. Weak straw man. He lied about how previous Presidents have dealt with fallen soldiers. I would say, "If Obama did that, the right would go nuts." But, of course, Obama never did that.

Again, what's your point?

Hitler? Oops, jumped the gun. Speaking of lies, I've been wondering where all the self important, psuedo-intellectual predictions of Trump as the second coming of Hitler that were so popular about this time last year have gone. I keep waiting for the jackboots to arrive. Or maybe where all the Mexicans, gays, Muslims, and women that were going to be rounded up in Trumps fascist concentration/deportation camps are being hidden. Liars indeed. I'm not sure a prediction, by definition, can be a lie. Anyway, maybe he just needs more time.

Oh, man, does that bit of pseudo-philosophical sophistry ever beg for an unpacking. Not really. Jeff's just using grown up words to say: Every time the left hears Trump say something: 1. They know is untrue 2. They suspect is untrue 3. They hope is untrue They categorize it simply. It is a "lie". And all Jeff is pointing out is that the rest of America hears Trump and they sometimes hear him lie. And they sometimes hear him get it wrong. And they sometimes hear him speak uncarefully but they know exactly what he meant. And they hear him speak hyperbolically and they know what he meant. And they hear him speak coarsely or belying his sorry English speaking skills but they understand what he meant. In every one of those cases, you refer to his speech as "lies". The rest of America is capable of making the same distinctions you made when, for instance, Obama said "If you want your doctor, you can keep your doctor". The right said Obama lied. You knew better. But suddenly you are utterly incapable of such discernment and take everything Trump says literally....and call it all lies. And that's how we got Trump.

Most people lie for the same reasons. To take advantage of the gullible, to make themselves look better and to get out of trouble.

Problem is people see politician is a crook, but he's our crook so they keep electing crooks. They all take bribes, they call it campaign contributions etc but everyone knows they are bribes. So better our crook than their crook.

I agree the media view every statement Trump makes, whether live or by tweet, as the equivalent of feeding time at the zoo. When the lions keep seeing red meat flying at them, they tend to think whatever comes out next will be more red meat.
