I seem to recall a rather extensive discussion about these some years ago. I'm hoping the experts that chimed in on that thread can give me some advice. The local hardware store has a Mr. Coffee batch grinder onsale for $40. Since the bladed grinder I've been using is relatively old, I was wondering if this would be an acceptable replacement/improvement.
Or better still does anyone have a recommendation? I'm not a coffee conniseur, but have found that I like 'ritual' of grinding the beans for a pot.
thanks for any help/advice.

Where is FactoryChef when you need him? Send him a private message. He is the only one I know that buys in, roasts, and grinds his own.
Always an awesome cup of coffee at Bob's. Nothing beats fresh ground in a French Press.

I think I was involved in that thread. I strongly considered buying a burr-style grinder for > $50 but in the end we got a $10 Oster at Target and it grinds it up just fine. I don't know if I could discern an improvement over my current setup. Maybe some people can, but I'm not that picky (about coffee. Everything else; yes.)

Burr Grinder is the way to go. I have had a few. Got them on Amazon. The most I ever paid was 20.00 bucks. Blades scorch the beans.

I’ve been using one of these for several years and it’s really excellent. The best grinder I’ve ever used. Easy to control the grind. Very even grind for anything from espresso to French press. (Click) I discovered that Bodum has these for $70.00 which is $30.00 less than everyone else. Buy now.

got the Bodum burr grinder the other day. Have only made one pot so far, but the change in the flavor is surprising (good surprising, not as bitter and seems a more nuanced flavor). THANKS DUB!!
BTW by the time I got around to ordering it the price had gone up to $80. depending on longevity still not a bad deal.
