Up and awake, and off to work again after a nice break. It is just chilly enough inside that I do NOT want to get out from under the covers. Ah, well. Off I have to go.
Have a great week.

Tons of new years's food, after a preview last night. Crab (yum!), different kinds of fish, some other things (symbolic for their lucky color, or some such mythology).
Same as yesterday--started with a beer, switched to warm sake, finished with some beer. I skipped the cheesecake and chiffon cake/
Work doesn't ever start again for me, wife is off till the 9th, son-in-law leaves to be back at work on the 5th, daughter/grand-daughter are staying till the 11th.
Cold and wet/rainy, but nothing like the midwest. Only 6C right now (about 40F). No thundersnow.

17 degrees, which is cold by local standards. The weather channel scheduled a snow storm here for tomorrow night so I put the snow shovel and rock salt on the back porch to try and scare it away. It will give me another reason to skip the open mic besides still being sick. Actually feeling a little less congested today but my voice still doesn't work. Mary has come down with the bug and is blaming me of course. I suspect we both picked it up at the grocery store a few days ago. In any case not much is going to happen here today. I guess you know it's been cold when you get up, look at the weather report, see that it says it's seven below outside, and think "well, that's not so bad".

Morning
11F/-12C Sunny, snow likely tonight.
Made lasagna from scratch for the first time last night, turn out quite well, but it is a lot of work and it makes a hell of a mess in my kitchen. More Doc stuff today then I'm done for a while.

minus 12 here. It is a worse minus 12 than the minus 12 at Millring's house. Much worse. Did I ever mention how much I hate the cold? If not, I will sometime. Ugh!

Good morning! -2 here thus morning in the Milwaukee area. Brrrr! So cold!
I have to meet the remodeler today to look at countertop material. Unfortunately we will be outside for part of the time. Thank the Lord for down coats!!
The demo of our remodeling project is done. It took one huge and 2 smaller dumpsters to contain all that left the inside! This week the temporary walls will be built that will support the second floor while a weight bearing wall is removed on the main floor. Next week a steel beam comes in. Pretty amazing engineering!!
Like most folks, I am feeling the need to circle the wagons around better food and exercise. It is so hard to do in this climate where biology urges bodies to store fat and preserve energy in response to extreme cold! 😁 I cleared out the exercise room downstairs and unearthed the treadmill. It is Go time!
But first....☕️
Stay warm, my friends. And may the Force be with all those returning to the work week!

Rough night for Billy -- the cold, dry air and something else seemed to trigger breathing difficulties and my inhaler seemed to have no effect, so I could not get to sleep. Actually looked forward to coming to work, loading up on free coffee and luxuriating in WARM. Which it is here. Maui in Minneapolis!

Not even freezing here (35F), there's an effing cold wind blowing, sucking the heat out of every living thing, making it feel muuchh colder. same old, same old for the rest of the day, though I do need to start pruning soon, maybe thursday.
better days y'all

Humidistat say 31% in the office room. Vaporizer burbling away. Serious condensation on the windows.
But I shouldn't have to go outside, except to fill the bird feeder.

The party is over. Joshua goes home today. Tomorrow, Barb to work and Carrie to school. I will stay home, stay warm, and heal. 7º outside, 70º inside. I think I'll stay inside.

In emergencies, you can drink the water from the widows. Use a sponge to soak it up and then chew the sponge to get the water. That is what I do.

Cccccold update:
Bitterly cold temperatures are causing troubles across a wide swath of the U.S., including in an Iowa city where the water tower froze.
The Waterloo suburb of Evansdale lost water service for a time Monday after temperatures fell to minus 20 degrees (-29 Celsius). Mayor Doug Faas said Tuesday that water is being run directly from the wells into the system, bypassing the suspected ice blockage in the tower.
A city staffer is expected to climb the tower later Tuesday [FUN!] to see what's wrong and determine how to fix the problem.
In the northwest Indiana city of Lafayette, residents began hearing a hum that Duke Energy says is caused by extra power surging through utility lines to meet power demands during the Arctic blast. Monday's low fell to minus 16 degrees at the National Weather Service's Purdue Airport station in adjacent West Lafayette.
