No matter what Doug has always been a good sport. Or, to give it a more elevated word, gracious.
May we all be gracious.

What a unique man. No one can fill this void. No truer words, david. I'm still quite teary eyed and numb this morning. Remembering dinner with Doug last September, when he stopped here on his way to IdiotJam 2017. Remembering sharing the back room at FactoryChef's with him at IdiotJam 2016. Someone mentioned his weird underwear. What underwear? Wishing much peace and comfort for Dennis, Chris.....all of us.

Thaxter, Lonnie, Godot (Kevin Donnelly), Doug. Cyndy's husband, Factory Chef's wife, Evan's son.
Dammit a thousand times.

Thaxter, Lonnie, Gadot, Doug. Cyndy's husband, Factory Chef's wife, Evan's son. Dammit a thousand times. I was greatly saddened to see this this morning. I didn’t know Doug personally but always enjoyed his combative positions on our discussionas. Like it or not, we are mostly a forum of old folks so eventually we are going to see those among us pass over time. My mother always complains how she has lost so many friends in the retirement home she is in. I always felt was the nature of the situation she was in. Losing our friends goes with the territory. None the less, it is always sad to see another of us leave this earth. Doug, I hope you can meet up with others who have left us and pick a few tunes in heaven.

Some people occupy a space so large it defies measure. RIP Doug. Condolences to Dennis, Doug was lucky to have you as a friend.

Damn! I really liked that irascible ...friend. He even made it up to Grand Forks and we grilled on the deck as we watched the sun set behind his motor home. Doug, your passing has left a hole.
I don't expect there is a need, but I hope you are allowed to carry in heaven, because, well, just because.

Damn. I never met the man or interacted much with him on the forum, but always enjoyed what he wrote, whether I agreed or disagreed. He always seemed very comfortable with who he was, equal parts gracious and unapologetic. Prayers for all those who love him.

Man I wish I hadn't clicked on this at work... 😔
Only met the man once, but for a short guy he was a giant.
Rest in peace, friend.

Sue and I are heartbroken.
For those of you that know me, you'll know how rare it is for me to be speechless. Yet here I am.

Oh no! I am just heartsick reading this. Like all here, I thought he was going to do well and buy some time. Prayers and hugs for Chris...I know they were quite a team.
Yes, Doug was indeed a character but one with a very good heart. Any time I had a question I could count on Doug to try to help me out. He had his opinions formed from a life of diverse experiences and he voiced them without apology. I respected him for that. Despite his crassness, I had a warm spot in my heart for him. I am so glad I got to meet him at IJam. I will miss his morning greeting in our Chat Room but I manage a grin when I think of him showing up at the Gate, offering up that greeting to St. Peter!
RIP, Doug. You were one of the good ones.
This SH room has harbored many a sad heart...
