I'll resist the urge to open a 1/24/2018 thread.
Good but 20 degrees cooler morning. It was 65degrees at Scotch O'clock (4pm) yesterday. Not going to get to 50 today. I got the torn pool cover cleaned off yesterday and will try to get it removed today but not 'til it warms up some. 1st world problem but I'm too old to play in water at 35 degrees. It was nice having a drink on the back porch without a coat on yesterday. Wish it would last.
Happy Wednesday.

Good morning. I'll be digging compost into the tomato bed today. My wife is the food gardener for the most part but I raise tomatoes because I love them and the tomatoes in the stores have no taste. Otherwise it'll be a little of this and a little of that. Enjoy your day.

I’m reading The Little Flower on the train out of London: a book that says we can only do small things with great attention.
Next to me, a suited, stiletto-heeled commuter hides her title. But when she leaves for coffee, I look. Chapter one: Focus on your core
genius now! Reject rejection! Sort out incompleteness—Now! I think no human needs the stress of so many exclamations in one life.
I breathe, look outside the window. The grass, praise be, joyfully illiterate, is free of such nonsense. It swaddles every creature’s foot in tender ignorance.
The lemon balm I crush for tea releases its scent when dying. To suffer? To bear one’s cross? So out of vogue.
Outside, magnolias lift their lemon cups to no one and to everyone whether or not we notice. The world bears its loveliness
on broken limbs. Perfection? Let us begin by shattering its unholy idols.

Icy out there. It would be easy to break a bone or two today if a person steps carelessly. I do not intend to do so. Stay upright if you can.

Shoveled twice today, and will shovel again in the morning. (I don't have to go to work, but my wife needs to.)
It's maybe 27-28f now, with wind (and snow all along, of course). Wind was horrible this aft., it's backed off some now, but still blowing.

Finally can get serious about working on our taxes. Turbotax arrived in the mail yesterday. It took 6 days to travel the 80 miles from Tucson to our local post office. There will also be some guitar playing. Dentist tomorrow. On Friday I should be receiving about 75 essays to review for a scholarship contest, something I've been involved in for years.
Low of 30 last night. Warmer than it has been.

I was dismayed when I got home from work yesterday and my driveway was still unplowed, so I called my guy, who said they would definitely get to it, but not for four hours or more. So I went to Trader Joe's for some stuff, then stopped at Nutmeg Brewhouse for an early supper of Chicken Tikka, then I mailed some bills and finally cruised back to my neighborhood, unsure if I could park on the street or not.
Then ... a miracle! I noticed a guy and his wife in an F-250 diesel with plow attached coming down the street and flagged him down. They weren't really looking for plow work, but took pity on my dilemma and did a great job of clearing the snow. I got the Good Neighbor rate, too, $20, and added $5 as a tip.
Sometimes you just gotta be in the right place at the right time.

The snow blower ran perfectly yesterday, plus it was in the nice calm sunny 20s, so digging out yesterday was actually fun. And the driveway and sidewalks have nice crisp edges. Then later tried out a new open mic in Stillwater, at a place with tiki decor. Not a bad day.

Some guitar. Some composition. Some drawing. Work out. Read a book. And possibly grocery shopping. And a workout. I might have to hire someone to do the grocery shopping.

30F/-1C Cloudy.
Just back from taking a slow freeway drive to drop Zaria off at school, she missed her bus AGAIN! I also had a talk with the school office about this and they are going to work with me to get that girl to school on a bus. Shop time.
