My 6 year old granddaughter, Channing, asked me to teach her how to play the guitar. I have seen videos of 6 year olds playing much better than me but one would think they are kinda rare.
I was thinking maybe a ukulele to start. I have a very nice one I bought from Marshall a hundred years or so ago but don't want to let her have that- yet.
So, do any of you know where to get a $100- $150 uke to see if she is serious?
Thks

Cordoba makes some decent ones, avoid the Mahalo brand. There are other good brands, I'll let other folks talk about those. Get a Concert or Tenor not a Soprano even though you may think the smaller size is better for her. Look at the string height at the nut, too high here and it won't get in tune. Intonation is all important. Use a tuner in the store and check it. A uke that won't play in tune is useless.
EDIT: Plywood is fine for a first uke, durable and roadworthy, worry about great tone with number two.

The Kala Travel uke is wonderful for kids. Two year old grandson with one.

Just wander down to your favouite big box music store. They’ll have a ton of inexpensive ones there. Just needs to be playable and sound half decent.

I won’t be able to play one. I is here and she is way over there. I will take a recommendation from here order it and have it shipped to her house in Orlando. Hopefully it won’t suck.
