One of the first guitar playing friends I made out here in AZ asked last week if I would join his musical trio of him, his bass player, and now me. The female singer he had has decided to leave AZ for cooler climates. I suspect that I am a far distant second choice, but beggers can’t be choosers I guess. We had one practice last week and into the fire on Sunday. By my standards it didn’t go too well. But retirees are very easy to please. Next gig is Saturday and one day of more practice this week. Hopefully we will refine more of the tunes and tighten things up. I was as much to blame for the rough performance since I am a total newby to playing in a group. I have a lot to learn about fitting in with others.

Good for you, Paul. You're right that playing in a group is different but I always thought it was a lot more fun.

You'll do fine. Just remember that your ears are the most important piece of equipment you have when playing with a group. Also, it is good to establish who in the group is responsible for establishing tempo. A little more practice should take care of it!

Lol, Paul. I was lucky enough in the first band I was in to play with a drummer who had been trained since he was barely old enough to hold a drum stick. When you have a metronome like that, it’s a lot easier. But we also played together a lot; you’ll be fine. If I wasn’t so lazy, and unwilling to practice other people’s stuff, I’d try and find something as well. Assuming of course, that I could find a group without the egos that brought that first band to pieces. Ah, youth.

A man of your talents will do fine, Paul. Good luck to you.

So you moved far away and have found musicians to do stuff with. That’s great.

Sounds like fun to me. I've given thought to looking for a group of some kind to play with. I think I'll be ready to do that way before I'm back together enough to do any more solo stuff.

"Just remember that your ears are the most important piece of equipment you have when playing with a group." I'd never heard that Shannon, but I like it and think it's true.

So you moved far away and have found musicians to do stuff with. That’s great. Mostly well recognized pop tunes, but I am doing a few of the tunes I used to do solo.
