I would give him a "ooh-rah" but I'd get it wrong.

Angie just saw that. That guy was quite the character. His performance in Full Metal Jacket was one for the ages.

I wondered if this was your dog and I should offer condolences. We don't go to movies much.

Actually met him through a friend from the flying club in St Louis. He was a regional manager for Glock and R. Lee was traveling as a spokesperson.
It was brief and I tried to remain cool, but still told him that I thought he was great in anything I had ever seen him in.

Most definitely NOT SAFE FOR WORK. This is the rant from Full Metal Jacket. As I remember the story, he had actually been a drill sergeant. He was also en evangelical Christian, and the producers didn’t believe he could deliver the proper vulgarity and sheer nastiness they required. He gave them an example, and they hired him.

He was actually hired as a technical advisor for the film (the same as he was for apocalypse now) and had made a short "training" film for Kubrick to use to show how it should be done. He and the assistant director had him do some off the cuff stuff using some of the extras. He got the role.

Speaking of Drill Sargents, I was clearing out some old photos. Threw most out. But I saved a couple. When I was in Basic Training in 1973, my homey friends gave me a pocket instamatic camera as a farewell present. And I carried it with me throughout Basic Training and AIT. The quality of pictures was grainy. But it was a fun little exercise. Well as things would have it, on the lat day of Basic Training, my Drill Sargent had it out for me. He wanted me to shave my (regulation) mustache. I hid from him the best I could. I signed up for Arms Guard in the weapons room on the last night of Basic so he couldn't find me. As it turned out he also had duty that night in the Company Commander's office. Somebody is in-charge 24/7. And my good friend fellow draftee, Mark, came by at about 2:00 AM to relieve me, and said that Sarge was asleep at the Commander's desk in the next room. So, of course, I snuck in and took a picture of him sleeping on the desk. And then I took his hat and put it on and got a picture of me wearing his hat. Good thing, the flash from the camera didn't wake him, or I'd be deceased.
