I understand the argument that Trump has a lot of nerve criticizing the White House Correspondents Association awards dinner's hired comedienne Michelle Wolf for being nasty to him, when Trump has never missed an opportunity to demonize the press - with no pretense of trying to be funny about it. And I am a big fan of clever and biting satire as found, for example, on late-night talk shows. But as a onetime member of the Correspondents Association who has attended a good number of these events, I found this performance absolutely disgraceful, and unhelpful to the cause of a strong and well-respected Fourth Estate.
It might be a case of square-hole-round-peg: maybe Wolf is a real stitch in her own orbit. But I'm afraid the decision to hire her, with her brand of raunchy, obscenity-and-profanity-laced, often unfunny and downright ugly, brand of humor was a terrible strategic mistake in the ongoing war between the media and this administration.
Granted she was an equal-opportunity abuser, handing out insults to all sides. But we don't need to gratuitously hand the Trumpsters more ammunition for their contention that the Washington media are elitist, immoral vipers, out of touch with the rest of the country.
I've long questioned the whole premise of dropping the barriers we ordinarily keep up between ourselves and the people we cover for a night of comity and snarky humor. It might be okay if that remained its nature, though the whole idea has long felt to me a little creepy at its core. I see that a newspaper I much admire, the NYT,stopped attending back in 2004.
This stupid, in my opinion, decision to bring on someone like Wolf makes me want to re-examine the usefulness of the whole ritual, if this is the depth to which it can sink.

Trimp is destroying the EPA. And the Dept of Ed. And Justice. And State.
So Sara Sanders feelings got hurt? Gee, that's a shame.
Also, Michelke was pretty spot on about the media making money off Trump.

It’s actually that famous hotel room in Moscow. The two hookers are in the middle there.

Politico Chief Political Correspondent Tim Alberta agrees with you, Don: "Every caricature thrust upon the national press—that we are culturally elitist, professionally incestuous, socioeconomically detached and ideologically biased—is confirmed by this trainwreck of an event.
Journalists, the joke’s on us.
The WHCD is broken. Fix it or end it."

I find it hard to blame Wolf. She just did her act, the thing she was hired to do, the best way she could. It’s like hiring Bill Monroe for musical entertainment and then being angry because all he played was Bluegrass music.

Ask him to play some Chopin and he would get all uppity.

I find it hard to blame Wolf. Not really. Her act is disgusting. Anywhere. Any time.

Bias confirmation. Everything I think of the left, that they're not good people, gets confirmed every time one or more of them speak.

I turned it off after Ryan pulled his Miller Lite.
I thought that was the climax.

I find it hard to blame Wolf. Not really. Her act is disgusting. Anywhere. Any time. Of course! No question about that. But the fact that she makes a living means that a significant number of people find her entertaining at some level. I'm aware that many acts appearing in comedy clubs wouldn't be invited to perform on late night TV, but they might be hired to do an HBO show. I've never seen a Stormy Daniels film either but I'm guessing many people have. My point is that somebody in the WHCA knew what Wolf's act would be like and arranged to have her on the program. Perhaps they found her act entertaining or perhaps they had some idea how her appearance would play out. Whether we're fans of Wolf or not she did what she was paid $10,000 to do. Note that the biggest names in comedy are beyond the reach of the WHCA's budget.

Like trump is not disgusting? So, are we going to have a contest, or is someone actually ever going to be an adult and rise above it? Seriously, if your problem with Trump is that he is disgusting, then appreciating Wolf's "humor" is a perverse way of showing it. Heavy on the "perverse".
