In Millring’s neighborhood they tip cows. They sneak up on a sleeping heifer and tip it onto its side. Then they laugh hysterically, drink some more Boone’s Farm Apple Wine and go off looking for another sleeping cow. Hoosiers. What can I say? I'm guessing they could wind up tipping luthiers too if the luthiers happened to be in the outhouse at the wrong time.

Perhaps the question should be reframed to ask: SHOULD you tip your luthier?

Not if he charges what he is worth. Again, a professional providing a professional service.

Best tip I got was “Nice job on the setup. By the way slow down your backswing and put your right hand a little more under the club.”
