Deb and I spent last summer on projects around the house and have decided that this year we would do our best to do a back country hike once a week. We're getting to the point where "while we still can" is a growing part of the equation.
Last week we visited Lower Sand Creek Lake which is in the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve, sandwiched between the National Park and the Sangre de Cristos.

Yesterday we did Lily Lake, a hike we've heard about but the trailhead is 1 1/2 hours away so we hadn't done it yet with so many other trailheads within 30 minutes of here. The pictures do tell the story, it was a fabulous day.
After only 15 minutes on the trail, we emerged from the trees to this inviting vista.

As much as we enjoyed the experience, Sophie was a model of pure joy all day.

Here we are about 6 1/2 hours into our 7 hour adventure, almost back to the trailhead relaxing by the creek.
