Picking up Christine from the airport after 7 days of Chinese water torture disguised as a "grading convention".
She and 4000 other poor saps graders were recruited to grade AP essay questions at the Tampa convention center. Three questions. The 4000 was divided into three groups and each group read and graded ONE question, 8 hours a day, 7 days straight.

Another hot day here but Summer starts in a couple of days and it's supposed to cool off then for a few days.
The nail place wasn't open yesterday so I'll try to get them replaced today.
Have a good Tuesday.

Mornin'..... The rains from a couple of days ago has made the grass jump up, although its wonderfully green without the City of Cimarron charging me. I refuse to buy more water to make it grow so I can mow. However, the forecast tonight is for torrential rain from strong storms that will likely cover the entire state. So guess what I'm doing today? Mowing the whole place. And since I'll be back in KC for Sunday and Monday, I'll still have a jungle waiting for me. Bindweed violation resolved.....indeed I was cited for the City of Cimarron's bindweed.

Speaking of bind weed, how do you get rid of it? I'm using gallons of roundup, is that the easiest way?
Looking to be another scorcher here, upper 70s. Shopping on the mainland today, then more work in the garden, maybe get the garage door to open.
Better days y'all

Up. I feel a bit beat up this morning, but that will pass. I took Dog out for a walk this morning in the cool air. That's supposed to be good for me. Hurt like crap. Joints...

Good morning
73F/23C Rain.
It was cool last night so I was able to sleep. Got up at 6:15 by my clock and by the time I had gotten to the kitchen to make coffee the power had gone out, bummer. It came back on about 45 minutes later so I was able to make coffee for DaWife before she had to go to work. Shop time this morning and housework this afternoon.
Pine Island 88F.
81 Day til IJ.

Hot in the Carolinas. No mowing for me. I got up before it got too hot, and covered my entire back yard (32 x 35 feet) in pine bark mulch. Bought paint for an interior project yesterday, but I probably won’t start on that today.

Up. I feel a bit beat up this morning, but that will pass. I took Dog out for a walk this morning in the cool air. That's supposed to be good for me. Hurt like crap. Joints... I drop your name and basic info occasionally. Our best friend's son joined the Army late in life (34 +-) after pursuing a football career waaayy too long. (My private name for him was Uncle Rico). Dianne and my wife have been besties since the second grade and we lived across the street from them for 25 years. Their kids are like our kids. Brian has some kind of bachelor's degree that a lot of coaching wannabe's have but things just didn't work out. After a series of setbacks he joined the Army. Instead of using his degree and years of college to get into OCS he (again) went the macho route: Combat medic (which he completed), sniper school (status unknown), paratrooper, and eventually Ranger (at 35 'OMFG'). A bout of pneumonia and a broken bone in his foot kept him out of Ranger training (for now). Then.... he meets another soldier, sparks fly, and now she is expecting. His unit is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in a few months- right after the birth. His sargents are urging him to fill out the paperwork for OCS and not deploy with his unit. Back to you. I may have this slightly bollixed up but I have told him and his parents that I have a friend: Colonel, paratrooper, multiple deployments, yadda yadda yadda and rather than post him somewhere that he could serve with his back as is (because of the jumps) they posted him elsewhere knowing (or not caring at least) that it would probably end his career. I usually don't interfere or give advice but I have strongly advocated that he not continue with his present course and avoid jump school if at all possible. I hope I didn't misrepresent your story but tried to impress upon them that if they cast someone like you aside, what would they do with him if his 35 year old body gets messed up jumping out of airplanes. We are hoping that the forthcoming child will drain some of that testosterone and allow him to use the bigger head instead of the little one for once.

Scattered rain of the weekend finally lets up; should be around 80 today. Squat day at the gym, then rehearsal, and then I’m totally stoked!
If you remember this young lady:
She’s back in town for a wedding (also a former student of mine), so I took the opportunity to book her a gig tonight at the outdoor place we played last Saturday. Haven’t seen her since last summer; she took a semester to study abroad at a Berklee affiliate in Spain. We get to go hang out with her parents, drink beer, and hear what she’s been working on this year.
Good times.

I can't imaging going through Ranger school in my 30s. Jumping out of planes is hard on a body as well. The attraction is understandable, as the soldiers in those kinds of units are generally very motivating, and very humbling to serve with. That said, if he wants to go through OCS, he needs to do it now. I think the cut-off is 36.

Great weather. Plants growing like they are in a jungle greenhouse. Best looking tomatoes and beans I have ever, ever had.
