The trend lately is for my mind to be visualizing music. I don't know how you guys do it but for me to play just about anything requires copious thinking about lyrics, chords, visualizing myself performing, seeing if it "fits".
I can't remember the last time I have done this. For many years now it has been crowded with worries and numerous lines of thought like "What am I going to do about this"? and "What if this happens"? and on and on and on.
Owning a business and having families depend on you for paychecks, insurance, homes, etc is not something you can think about 7 to 5 on weekdays. You go to bed with it and get up with it.
Up until a month ago the pressure was still pretty high. We were working but clients weren't wanting to pay and my daughter and I were scrambling to find lines of credit, shuffling this and that trying to make payroll.
She hasn't hit me with one of those "I don't know what to do" phone calls in a month or so and since Baby Dopttir has agreed to not only get me to IJ but also to come along I don't want to sit on my hands like last time I was there.
Anyway, I have a small stack of old country songs and a few for BD that I have been looking at and trying to learn. I hope we don't hit another one of those bad stretches between now and Idiot Jam.
Fingers crossed.

A little tip, whiskey helps with the visualization part. It isn't just for the playing and singing parts.

Excellent! And so glad you’re coming. Fiddlerina is trying to remember the tune you and Jerry and she used to play together.
I find that visualization is useful too. I try to imagine what it might be like to be a guitar player. I never worry about lyrics. They’ve always just come to me. If I’ve heard a song more than a couple of times, even many years go, I seem to know the lyrics.

I always struggle with learning pieces. I pretty much have to pound them into my head. Something I'm hoping to get out of jamming is the ability to pick things up by ear more easily.

I mumble instead of learning lyrics.
Coast, Alan. Coast.
