So you Minnesotans go trolling in South Dakota?
And why would North Dakota be more expensive than South Dakota? You have to warm up the car longer?

I think to be fair you have to consider what is considered a date in each state.

They didn't figure in the cost of the non-disclosure agreement.

With Nancy, a half-glass of wine and a bit of dancing in the den was all it took.
Cheap date with a very classy woman.

Nobody keeps track of or reports money spent on dates. The graphic was produced by match.com, an online dating service. Maybe people make up post the amounts they spend in order to suggest to potential matches that they are big spenders.

I’m guessing there are cultural differences that explain some of it. $48.91 will get two people a movie and a couple of burgers in most states. Some locations are culturally attuned to fancier dates. In Chicago I regularly spent over $100 on dates and that was in the 1970s. Cab fares, theatre tickets (not movies), nice downtown restaurant, it adds up. On edit: $100 in 1975 had a buying power equal to $475 today.

Cheapest date I ever had was in Steven's Point, Wisconsin. It was a Monday night so tap beer was five cents a glass (per "The Triangle" normal). After four beers, she told me she had a boyfriend. So, all told, I spent twenty cents on her. (the bar pretzels were free)

Obviously a good sit-down squirrel dinner costs less in Indiana than it does in Illinois. Still, it's making me look twice toward Ohio.

Yeah $49 seems like overkill for Burger King and some lube.

In the inimitable words of Mungo Jerry, “If her daddy’s rich, take her out for a meal, if her daddy’s poor, just do what you feel.” You can tell where all the rich folks live. And not in the Dakotas.

Do you think the New York number may be skewed by the inclusion of a certain one night stand that cost $136,000.

That's what my wife did for me on my 2006 Chevy Cobalt on our first date.
