Quickest is to take I-294 South to I-80.
I-80 West to Iowa City and take I-380 north to Route 30. take Route 30 west to State Rd 218 and take that into Vinton
Of about equal time and distance (maybe a smudge shorter) is to take I-294 south to I-88. (I-88 will come up quicker).
Take I-88 west until it ends and joins up with I-80 at the Quad Cities. I think the tolls on I-88 are higher.
The scenic route (not recommended for time) would be to take I-88 out to Sterling Illinois and get off there and take old Route 30 west all the way into Iowa. There will be some small towns to go through. Nice and scenic. But it'll take more time.
My cell is 3i2-953-1104 if you wanna talk.

If you take I-80 you'll pass the World's Largest Truck Stop.
. . . , and it's best to pass it. Nothing there but chain restaurants and overpriced pocket knifes you can buy. The bathrooms are OK, though.

The 218 Route 30 Intersection is under construction. Good idea to pull off at the Newhall Exit and go north. Just outside of Newhall the road take a sharp right and it will take you to 218 and then North. Good travel and see you all soon.

Think I’ll go by and tell him I’m playing a gig with Bill Hammond this weekend. He will be green with envy.

Got those turned around. Just follow the signs and you will get there. Iowa is easy to traverse due to good signage and mostly straight roads.

What is the best route from OHare to Vinton? You want the one that goes through Warsaw, or a more indirect route?

Almost immediately you’ll see the signs for I-294 South. Then, as Marshall says, take that to I-88 West and stay on I-88 to I-80. These are toll roads so you’ll want some cash. You’ll see I-380 at Iowa City. Go north for about seventeen miles to US-30 West. The turnoff to Newhall is called 27th Ave. Take it north and just stay on the blacktop. I think any wrong turns will put you on gravel roads. Without stops this route should take a little over four hours. If you get confused or lost (not likely for a surveyor) give me a call and I’ll help. (three.one.nine.three89.one5three5)

As you walk back by mention that there's a gofer in first class. < gopher > I knew that looked wrong but it wasn't caught so gofer must be a word. Anyway, obviously you are correct, gopher.

Sorry for the confusion, you are fine with the direction up to the Route 30. When you are on Route 30 watch for the sings to Newhall. It is about 3 miles short of where the normal turn is.
It is the junction of 30 & 218 that is under construction. By taking the Newhall turn, it gets you where you want to go. Hope I was clearer this time.
