Last year, Der Spiegel published a scathing story about this Minnesota town that voted largely for Trump. Bunch of hateful, racist rubes, of course, as confirmed by the Der Spiegel writer who spent five weeks living there for his research. A pair of locals called them out, highlighting the almost 100% rate of obvious fabrications in the story. Sunday, the Der Spiegel editorial staff ate the crow they had coming: www.spiegel.de/international/world/fergus-falls-a-fantastic-town-a-1245308-amp.html

This is the press, right. Straight down the center, God's honest truth, right? Go figure.

At least half a dozen articles from Der Spiegel apologising for the original piece (and others), setting the record straight and contritely explaining the sorry facts of the matter. That's worthy of appreciation.

< Fergus > Falls, btw, the inspiration for "Frostbite Falls" for all you Jay Ward fans. ... [/quote] Ahem. The inspiration for Jay Ward's "Frostbite Falls" was the Minnesota city, "International Falls", population 5,994, commonly referred to as "The Ice Box of the Nation" (and the site of countless "Die Hard" battery commercials). Fergus Falls is located in the balmy middle of the state (north to south), a little over 200 miles south of International Falls (and a 180 miles south of Newfolden). (Langdon, ND, has the earned honor of being the coldest non-Alaska city in the nation)

Fergus Falls, arch rival of Alexandria in almost everything deserves all the bad press it can get. (Well they do have Dave Stoddard and Tony Miltich, that’s something good.)

I think there is some irony in the translation, given what passed. I'd have to work on that line of thought, however. At least Der Spiegel wasn't the same venue that brought us the Hitler Diaries. That was Der Stern, which translates to The Star.

I didn't know they were still publishing a Spiegel catalogue. Well, of course they aren’t . Spiegel actually translates as “Sears”, and we all know what’s going down there.
