So, this week has had some nasty temps in the Upper Midwest, certainly not unheard of, but OMG next week, I see the Twin Cities forecast for Wednesday is a HIGH of minus-15 F. and an overnight low of minus-31! The mind reels as to what things will be like in the far northern reaches of the state.
And, of course, Wednesdays just happen to be our busiest workdays on the features desk, so it's not like I could wimp out and stay home.
Maybe I could get 24-hour malaria, or something.

We're getting the same cold here. No schools were open Tuesday, Wednesday or today. Thursday I got to the Vinton middle school in the morning only to have them announce they were closing the minute I walked in the door. I drove to Cedar Rapids after that, and the same thing happened. Half a day of driving around doing absolutely nothing. We're expecting the same cold next week as well. I am not pleased.

We're getting a little apprehensive up here. Whenever there's an extended cold snap, the Maki Boys stop showering and let the sheep into the trailer for extra warmth.
Well, the no showering part isn't that unusual for them, not December through March, but the extended weeks-long addition of sheep adds an unwanted extra to their bouquet. Normally the sheep are only invited in for short parties.

I know a guy who used to live way up in northern MN “where the wind hits heavy on the borderline.” He’d be in real trouble if he still lived there. Fortunately for him he moved far away to another state. I think it may have been North Dakota.

I'm not so dismissive of the snow anymore -- now they are predicting 8 inches overnight Sunday-Monday. Dreading the commute already, assuming I get out of my driveway.

Bill, NBC Palm Springs could use a good editor. The weather dude has been saying all evening that S Calif was the warmest spot in the nation. Which would be cool if Hawaii was not a part of the USA. Just sayin'.

To prepare for the winter nastiness, I bought takeout BBQ today in the form of four Kansas-style ribs, smoked half-chicken and smoked hot link, plus sides of Jimmy beans, dirty rice and a garbanzo/pickled-veggie salad, plus cornbread. It's designed as a meal for two, and so I think I should be able to nibble off it for a couple of days.
Seemed like the right thing to do. I'll make a supermarket/gas station/coffee run in the morning before the snow starts in late afternoon. Looking like a long weather week ahead.

I've got a gig in the city on Wed at the French Market in the train station from 4:30 to 6:30. I expect to take the train in and out. But waiting on a platform with a guitar and amp won't be fun.
We'll see if anybody is there.

I thought you people shot a moose to get you through the winter.

Same brutal stuff here from Tues to Friday. Being retired mean we don’t have to go out. I feel for those of you who do.

So what is that--the GOP is spinning in circles, skating on thin ice, or what?
