Have good ones.
Off later this morning to shop for a new Jeep. I totaled the last one, a 7 month old 18 Cherokee on December 17th. Yes, it took this long to get everything settled and resolved.
Onward!

Well, the worst of the snowfall missed my neck of the woods, and shoveling this morning was 10 mins of clearing out what the city plow left at the end of my driveway. Looks like we got 4-5 inches as opposed to the 8-plus that was predicted. It was 5 degrees on my drive in, so that, too, was tolerable. So yay.

Good morning.
Yesterday I closed off the eaves of the quilt studio to try and keep the squirrels out. I had some scrap 2x6s left over from the deck project last Spring. I cut them into blocks to fit between the rafters and screwed them to the top plate of the wall. Unless the squirrels have a Saws-all or electric screwdriver with appropriate bit, I don't think they can get in. I just hope they were out when I did it. Every muscle in my body is telling me I'm too old to do that much work so I think I'll take today off.
Happy Monday. Cool and cloudy here but no snow.

Snowing heavily with brisk winds. There must be 4 inches so far but it is the coming cold that worries me. It will be a long week.

Snowing heavily with brisk winds. There must be 4 inches so far but it is the coming cold that worries me. It will be a long week. Staring out the window wondering when to fire up the blower and attack. Pretty soon. We've got a good guy at the Village. He comes by with a pickup truck and blade to plow the culdesac. And when he does it, he backs into our driveway, drops the blade, and shoves it across the street. No icey buildup at the end of out driveway. Nice. Yesterday the front doorknob assembly fell off the door. I was slamming it shut and the thing came off in my hand. I had installed it. A Lowes buy. The screws that thread thru the door barely make a grip from inside to outside. The hole in the door is duct taped over now. The deadbolt works. I think I have long enough screws now to do a proper job of it. But I'm going to have to buy some visquene so I can tape of the door opening while I work on the door. . . . , and at the coldest time of year.

I'm up. Watching the Today show. Minnappolis is supposed to get to -27 tomorrow according to Al Roker. That's nuts. By Thursday here it may rain and only get in the low 60s. I'll take it.
Yesterday was theater day. Went to see a stage production of the Wizard Of OZ. That was fun. Then last night on the Telly, was the Broadway live production of Rent. That was great.
Today, a bike ride then drinks and dinner at a Tiki Bar in Palm Springs with another retired bus driver I worked with who has a house down here.
Stay warm mid-westerners.

Mike Temps on Wednesday could fall to 30 below at MSP. If that happens, it would be first time that’s occurred since 1996. In rural areas where the wind has more room to build up speed, windchill could fall to 60 below.

Good morning.
10F/-12C Overcast.
Yesterday didn't go as planned so I still need to get humidifier filters today. Got the truck warming up while I clear the front porch of snow and while doing so saw the City plows clearing the major streets. My punishment for not doing it yesterday.
Pine Island 63F.

…Minnappolis is supposed to get to -27 tomorrow That’s not right. Minneapolis is SUPPOSED to be 75°F and sunny. I think the weather people only mean that it may not be what it’s SUPPOSED to be.

I think I have long enough screws now to do a proper job of it. But I'm going to have to buy some visquene so I can tape of the door opening while I work on the door. . . . , and at the coldest time of year. It is finished. I commend my spirit to the Soundhole. The door handle mechanism was a tricky problem. When I installed it last summer, the screws that came with it were not long enough. (YUCK ! How stupid of them?)And the template for the bottom hole never lined up with the unit. Tricky problem to solve. I found better screws for on top, but the bottom attachment (never done in the first install) was a tricky problem. How do you feed an 8/32 screw through small hole in a 1 3/4 door and get it to engage the threaded nut on the door handle? . . . , I scratched my head at the hardware store and came up with a 8/32 threaded rod that I could feed through the door and screw it into the bottom handle before mating the whole handle to the latch mechanism. That's when I found the problem with the template is the latch mechanism is a little loose in the big hole on top, and it sags, so the bottom bracket attachment won't be in the place the template says it will be. So drill the hole big enough to give the play necessary. Then match up the top screws in the big latch mechanism. Once all that is done, thread a washer and nut on the threaded rod on the inside of the door for the bottom attachment, cinch it tight, and cut off the excess rod (the hardware store only had a 3 ft length of threaded rod). Voila ! That baby sits snug and tight now and works poifectly.Just in time for the winter blast. Temps are 31 today. I only had the door open for 10 minutes to do the work. (Set up, and hardware trip, and planning, and lunch took a total of 4 hours, though).

Onward! What kind of Jeep, Dan? Both Iowa State and University of Iowa have called of classes due to cold for the next three days. I'm sure the kids will still find a way to local bar or convenience store. The cold stinks, but the wind is worse. The gravel was drifting badly when we came home, it was like driving a Mario cart. Yuck.
