I’m just amazed that a "singer-songwriter" could amass 4 million worth of anything, even with Count Dracula’s lifespan.

Fark the collection. Put them in the hands of musicians and let them make music.

I’m just amazed that a "singer-songwriter" could amass 4 million worth of anything, even with Count Dracula’s lifespan. Is that your way of asking “Who is David Bromberg?” Bromberg was a top folk/rock/pop star in the 1960s then, at some point, he quit performing and moved to Chicago to learn to be a violin maker. He finished his training, made some instruments, and parlayed his knowledge and and connections into becoming a world class violin dealer. In the process he amassed this collection of American made violins. Now he’s out performing again in addition to his violin store.

I understand Mr Bromberg's disappointment.
The final paragraph expresses some hope -- these instruments might find their way into the hands of inspired musicians, who will be even more inspired knowing the provenance of their violins or fiddles.
