Things are changing for us also. I managed to talk No.1 daughter out of the Carolina's. She is going to Destin to be with her bestie from High School and her family. Then Monday she will probably keep moving this way. It looks like the storm is going to hook up away from here so we will stay put (for now) in case our chirren need someplace to go.
It's not looking good for Son-in-Law's cranes. My daughter said they were rated up to 90 mph winds. Looks like there is a good chance it will exceed that. I couldn't imagine how to untangle the liabilities for a construction crane falling on a college dorm. Their client is the college; they don't own the crane; got to be clauses for unforeseen "acts of god" like hurricanes. I just hope the college clears those dorms out.... surely they will....

I hope everybody's insurance policy is paid up. (as well as evacuate the surrounding area.)
Maybe SIL needs to inform the college in writing (if he hasn't already) that the dorms may be at risk from an intense hurricane affecting the cranes. Then it's the college's responsibility to follow through on that.

He owns those cranes? I did not know that. I’m sure he gave them ample warning. Surely they listened.

Took me a while to figure out what Dorian was and what the problem was. That's one I'm glad I'm not grappling with. Good luck to him.

If they're leashed, hopefully the leashes will keep them in place. What are they leashed to?

I just hope the college clears those dorms out.... surely they will.... Man, I would not bet on that. The people running most colleges are not equipped to make strong decisions on anything out of the ordinary, in my experience. Now that I get what this thread is about, my opinion is that it's a real shit sandwich. I know that's not helpful; apologies for that.

Now they say Florida may be spared but Georgia, S. Carolina, N. Carolina and maybe Virginia coasts could be in trouble. Too early to tell really. Hurricanes don't take orders from the weather service. I'm sort of on the Virginia coast, salt water 1200 yards to my east but there are barrier islands further out that may protect us.

I hope it doesn't hit Alabama.

All the way up to Nova Scotia? A slow crawl all the way up the east coast doesn't seem like a great idea. Hopefully the whole thing diminishes soon. The situation in the Bahamas is absolutely horrible.

Bruce better batten down the hatches. He's up high enough to avoid tidal surge but close enough to shore to get some really strong winds.
Keep us informed, if you have wifi.

Keeping an eye on it but hoping the current model track stays far enough off the coast here that we'll see maybe 50mph winds or less. Trouble is, historically their models haven't been too good. Last year we were forced to evacuate up to Delaware for a few days but the storm never hit here. Then a week later a storm that wasn't supposed to hit here tore the place up. So, I don't trust the forecasts much. With the storm stuck down in the Bahamas for now there's no way to know what it will do.

Think of it as free water for the pool.
