What Carson King fiasco. It involved beer and a donation to a hospital is all I see.

I read the story and listened to the clip. I am completely missing the connection between King and the bike ride.
But, I hate what Juskiewicz did to Gibson guitars.

What Carson King fiasco. It involved beer and a donation to a hospital is all I see. - Some rando holds up a joke sign ("send beer money") on ESPN Game Day. - People pick up on it and send a bunch of beer money. - King decides he really can't keep all that money, so he donates it to a hospital. - Anheuser-Busch sees a great PR opportunity, and they get in on it, matching donations, selling shirts, etc. Stop there, and everyone can feel good and have a great day. But instead... - Some worthless shard at the Des Moines Register decides that the next thing he needs to do in his otherwise pointless life is plumb King's Twitter account, looking for dirt. - Having found some embarrassing Tweets by a then 16 yo king from seven years ago, that same worthless shard confronts King with them. - King, in a panic that he's about to become the object of the day's Two Minute Hate, tries to prophylactically engage in the required Ritual Humiliation in order to preserve his reputation. - It all spins out of control from there, with the Anheuser-Busch dropping the guy, The Register trying to weasel out of their culpability, worthless shard having a bunch of his own offensive Tweets exposed, etc, etc, etc. All things considered, it was a pretty good case study in everything that is wrong with "Cancel Culture".

Wouldn't be surprised if the dude gets more beer money for his ridiculous trouble.

Pretty disgusting. I agree that the reporter and the newspaper should have better things to do.

I read the original Des Moines Register article. Then I read the article about the resignations by the RAGBRAI staff.
I am confused as hell. I didn't see anything about RAGBRAI in the original article or anything connection King to their event. In the resignation article Juskiewicz is quoted as saying that the Des Moines Register “refused to offer me the opportunity to openly speak to the RAGBRAI Nation, and answer the hundreds of passionate questions asked about the future of RAGBRAI following the Des Moines Register’s handling of the Carson King story.”
About the only connection I can see between the original story and the RAGBRAI event is the fact that both are connected to the newspaper. Why that would have prompted "hundreds of passionate questions" about the future of RAGBRAI is beyond me.
I'm also having some trouble understanding why Juskiewicz thinks he's been denied the opportunity to speak to what he calls the "RAGBRAI Nation". RAGBRAI has a Facebook page. Couldn't Juskiewicz have answered everybody on the Facebook page? Now the guy's out of a job.
My BS meter is reading in the "scam" range but I can't figure out why.

Still missing the connection to the bike ride. ? The article: Jeff, I read all that and, like Lar, still see no connection. Where did the Register's handling of the Carson King incident intersect with the bike event? Why would the RAGBRAI Nation give a flying fuck?

Jeff, I read all that and, like Lar, still see no connection. Where did the Register's handling of the Carson King incident intersect with the bike event? Why would the RAGBRAI Nation give a flying fuck? Because the assholes at the Register went out of their way to destroy Carson King for no reason I'm guessing.
