About 2 years ago I was in San Juan on a business trip. At the time it appeared that I was going to need to go to my companies operation down there about 3 or 4 times a year. I decided to buy a guitar and keep it down there.
I went to a small shop and played every reasonably priced guitar in the place. After a lot of hemming and hawing I bought a Martin 000X1AE. Yup, the "plywood" Martin. It may sound dumb but to my ear it sounded way better than the Washburns and other acoustics in the place.
Just my luck. I haven't been back to San Juan since and between then and now there's been a hurricane to contend with. A few months ago I got the guitar moved from our office at the airport in San Juan to a repair station we maintain in Punta Gorda, FL. Finally, we needed to ferry an aircraft up to Milwaukee from Punta Gorda and my guitar arrived this morning! It was nice to see the little guy again.
Our operations manager in San Juan is also a guitar player. He kept an eye on my guitar while it was down there and took it home with him to ride out the hurricane. So despite a fair amount of water and wind damage in our office, my guitar stayed dry.
There is a little rust on the strings but it came right up to pitch when I tuned it and it still sounds and looks good. The neck is still true and the body looks great. Now I need to throw on a new set of strings and I'll be all set.

Awesome Lar. Our local shop carries those and I play them a lot. Good bang for the buck.

It's always nice to be reunited with an old friend. Or a guitar.

People like to make fun of those, but they are durable, sound good, and the price is reasonable.
