Wake up sluggards.
Still got the cough cold crud. But the new sewer line is finished. No real plans for the day, gonna take it easy as the Eagles would say.

Feeling pretty good today. Bill suggested I kick up my vice level to jump start things. Boy, did that work. Who knew vices were such fun? Well, Bill, obviously, but I didn’t. There is no going back to the straight & narrow now! Enjoy the day and enjoy those vices.
Mike, Barb & I were sick for almost three weeks with this crud. It is still not 100% gone but each day is better. We hope you are doing well soon.

Good morning.
Got the trash run in between downpours, which almost never happens. I'll try to stay inside the rest of the day.
Happy Saturday. 75 days 'til Spring.

Good morning. Looks like 43-67 and sunny. I need to go remove three photos from a group exhibit that's now over and then do some raking and pruning in the back yard. That's enough of an agenda not to get bored. Dinner will include smoked chuck roast left over from New Year's Eve. Enjoy your day!

Great food outing last night at Keg & Case, a huge multidimensional complex housed in the former bottling house of the Schmidt brewery in St. Paul. I got there a little before Barb did, and saw that the much revered BBQ outpost, Revival, had pork ribs on the menu. Turns out they do those only two nights a week, as they are known for their brisket and beef tips. So I ordered a half-rack and some beans and rice to go, along with a couple of their house sauces.
Then on to In Bloom, where every single item on the menu is cooked over open flame (red oak is the fuel) or embers. There's a 20-foot-wide hearth with various racks adjustable by steam-punk-appearing chains and wheels, and if you snag a counter seat as we did, you can watch the crew at work and stay warm by all the heat those flames and coals are generating. It's quite a show, but not hectic, almost a ballet -- very impressive, especially when one of their 2-pound porterhouses comes off the grill and eventually is sliced and reconstructed on the plate for two folks to enjoy ($90).
We had an amazing roasted mushroom dish served on kind of a tortilla made with chickpea flour and topped with some creamy melted Italian cheese and herbs. We shared an appetizer of roasted romaine lettuce with tarragon vinaigrette and some flavorful breadcrumb topping. For our mains, I had a fabulous burger (brisket/sirloin mix, ground in-house) topped with raclette on a perfect, lightweight, butter-grilled bun. Barb had mussels, done in a light-cream/chive sauce and things of super-tasty beauty. Her wine was a lovely French white, mine a nice Nero d'avolo red.
After dinner we went upstairs to the Clutch Brewery, where a woodwind quintet made up of Minnesota Orchestra players was just about ready to start their mini-concert, and although it was SRO, we found a decent spot and there was a sound-system speaker hanging right above us. Sadly, though, whoever was running the board didn't know what was going on, and there was frequent distortion. Neither of us is a big fan of woodwind ensembles, so we didn't feel much guilt in leaving after the third or fourth short piece. Off she went to shop a bit downstairs, and home I went to dream of ribs, beans and rice later in the weekend.
Marty, Radtke, et al -- next special occasion, check out In Bloom. If you get there when they open at 5, no problem getting in. Prime-time reservations are a lot more difficult, I reckon. Prices are not cheap, but fair, especially considering the wonderful setting and the quality of ingredients and cooking.

I just got back from the trails. It's lightly snowing but no accumulation. I picked up the latest Bernard Cornwell at the library yesterday and that will be my working companion today.

Good afternoon.
29F/-2C Mostly cloudy moving to Partly cloudy.
I haven't had a Saturday walk-In like today in quite a while. Not only did I make pretty good money today in two hours I had a lot of happily entertained customers to boot. I only took in one guitar, all the others I worked on were done while people watched and I talked about what I was doing and why. Mostly minor electronic or setup problems, easy fix stuff. If it would help keep every Saturday Walk-In like today I would put in a coffee and K-cup maker in the shop.
Pine Island 82F.
75 Days til Spring.

Mr. Marty's Neighborhood.
Do you have a cardigan, or is the shop apron the equivalent?

Snowing and blowing here. Elk tenderloin thawing on the counter so dinner here most definitely will not suck.

A pleasant winter day. White snow, blue sky, mild temperature (28F), light wind. I have been in my music/plant room repotting geranium cuttings interspersed with playing some Bordogni etudes on my trombone. Six weeks until starting the first batch of tomatoes.

A pleasant winter day. White snow, blue sky, mild temperature (28F), light wind. I have been in my music/plant room repotting geranium cuttings interspersed with playing some Bordogni etudes on my trombone. Six weeks until starting the first batch of tomatoes. Notes from the northern prairie, very nice. You guys deserve some calm weather after getting so blizzardededed. It's 32 here, sunny at present and light winds also -- I just swung over to the stupormarket for a few things and saw walkers and shoppers and others wearing no jackets and a few folks wearing shorts. Proving that everything is relative, and body acclimation to weather extremes is real. I'll never forget how miserable I was when I flew down to visit a Navy buddy in Fort Lauderdale when I was in my late 20s. It was in mid-February, the temps were in the low 90s, but the humidity and the sheer power of the sun were devastating to me, while my buddy could be out in it all day, wearing a jacket. We like to say up here that you can always put more clothes on, but you can only take so many off.
